Doctor Who: The Card Game 2nd Edition

Very easy, fun game. Better with 4 players than 2.

My son is a huge fan and decided to buy this game with his Christmas money, which left it to me to figure out how to play it and teach everyone else in the house. It honestly took me over an hour to get through all the instructions and figure them out, and we referred to them multiple times during our first couple of games, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty fun, and my son gets a kick out of seeing all the Doctor Who stuff in the game. A lot of the other reviewers are saying that it's much better with more than two players, but my son and I have played by ourselves and had just as much fun. There are instructions on the very back, very bottom of the booklet for two-player games, and it's important to read those before you attempt to play that way so you don't get 'stuck', as one reviewer called it.

My 12 year old daughter's favorite game. She is a fan of the show but you don't have to be a fan to play. We like the mechanics of passing cards you don't use to the another player which is an interesting dynamic. Great game

This is a MUST HAVE game for Who fans :) At first the instructions were difficult to follow but after our first game we caught on well :) Overall this is a simple game which can be played fairly quickly, but WATCH OUT as there are a number of nuances which shows a bit of planning and strategy can make a huge difference!

Great gift for our wedding party at our Dr. Who Themed wedding. Everyone loved their gift! Reasonably priced, and so much fun :-)

I would have given this a more glowing review, I think, had it been a co-op. As it is, you control both the defenders (the Doctor and his companions) and the enemies, foisting them on your opponents while defending against their attacks. As a game, it works, but as a sensible situation, it's lacking. My two real complaints about the game itself are: 1) the Defenders seemed outnumbered and outgunned, so you have to use multiple defenders to ward off many attacks, 2) when you defend, even successfully, all defenders are are discarded. Lose by 1 or win by 7, doesn't matter. If the attacker wins by 7, though, he or she discards attack cards equal to or lower than the defenders' strength. (e.g., Bob attacks Lisa with cards of 6 and 2 power, Lisa defends with 3, not knowing Bob's cards. Bob has to discard his 2 power card and keeps his 6 while Lisa discards her defender) In fairness, I've only played once and still had fun, just pointing out things I noticed.

This game is the most complicated, confusing, difficult game to learn and play, that I've ever encountered in my life. It took 3 of us a long time to understand enough of the rules to just start playing it. And there are PAGES of rules. Then it was hours of confusion and frustration which almost sent us into pure maddening insanity. Cards and playing pieces are gorgeous, but I never want to play this again. If you love Pokemon and D&D type games, then you'll love this one.

This is a great game for serious game people! Easy to play and quick to pick up!
