Good for small vessels
This is my second one but it works out real well on my Sundance skiff which is a 17 footer . I am definitely hard on equipment and most likely would be perfect for a normal boater

Worked for only six months, second one never worked!
Antenna worked well but only for six months. Very disappointed since the installation is rather difficult. Absolutely pissed! Shakespeare not returning calls regarding warranty. Update: removed the antenna and found the connection at the base to be green with corrosion and the wire came right out. Poor connection and poor strain relief having never been in salt water. Ordered a second one, installed it being extremely careful not to twist the wire (as I was on the first one) hooked up the Shakespeare VSWR meter. Transmit at only 5 watts and pegged the VSWR meter. In other words, totally inoperable! Now I am really pissed. Whatever they have done in the design of this antenna, they screwed the pooch! Update: Spoke with the factory and they have agreed to replace the first one under warranty. I will need to waterproof and fortify it prior to installation.

Beautiful!
This is such a beautiful antenna that my son wants to put it on his truck. Not because he needs a marine antenna, but because it looks that good. It should last nearly forever, it's all stainless, and sturdy enough that not much would hurt it. It's about the right height for something like a center console boat where a full height antenna would be ridiculous.

I ordered this to replace a very old VHF antenna of similar size on my boat. This antenna performs very well and looks very attractive (because an antenna needs to look good too). I installed mine on a Shakespeare 12" extension mast which gave it a nice increase in height on my small boat. Excellent antenna.

I like the full stainless base
I like the full stainless base. This is replacing the Shakespeare 36" Antenna with the half stainless and plastic base, which broke for unknown reasons. Of course nothing lasts for ever, the old antenna was 10 yrs. old.

Compromise antenna for inshore boat.
Short durable antenna for a low mount. I have this antenna mounted on a flats fishing boat. Its short and out of the way and while I realize this compromises its efficacy I wont be using this boat too far from port or other boats . A taller antenna especially one of fiberglass would be in the way and could easily be broken with a misplaced cast. The other reason for choosing this antenna is that the console rail and its hardware need to be dropped to store the boat in a garage due to homeowners regulations.
