Up or down, perfect sound!
These speakers were the final component to an extensive sound system upgrade I've made over the last 2 years. I vetted these babies over a year using different reviews and recommendations from various sources. I watched the prices of all the comparable equipment and bought these babies and I am so happy I did. What it came down when choosing these speakers was value and quality. These towers have the best value -bar none- of any towers on the market. The bottom line is that at any volume you get a wide range of quality and accurate sound, especially when you turn them up! No loss in the quality and range when you apply the power. You can find comparable speakers, but to get the same quality you will spend more money. Rest assured I ran them through their paces with various movies and select songs from my audio library and every time I was amazed by the quality of sound.I recommend an adequate receiver that can deliver at least 100 watts of power per channel. My personal equipment is the Sony STR-DN850. It is rated for 150W per channel. It is also recommended by many experts that you buy same brand of speakers for all you components as it allows for a uniformity of timber -the way the sound, sounds- across your entire sound architecture. I paired these up with the JBL Arena 125C center channel speaker and some older JBL bookshelf speakers for my rears. I do not have a subwoofer as the previous speakers I've owned have had adequate bass and these babies have more than enough bass to make a subwoofer redundant for me. All together my soundscape is now perfect.I would highly recommend picking these up. When I bought them, they were $250 each and that was stealing for this audiophile.

Excellent sound quality! ‘Old-school’ speaker!
I bought 2 of these on 2-1-2014 and am just now officially reviewing them! I paid a grand total of $499.98 for both of these, total. These are speakers made for excellent sound quality, which is what they offer. However, in hindsight, these are simply JUST speakers! They do not come with any wiring, amps, etc. I have mine wired to a Yamaha receiver. For old-school ‘speaker-heads’, these sound superb and are excellent! For the new-school crowd, this is not your speaker! I could go on-and-on with more details about the do’s and don’ts of such speakers, but why should I now?I took several photos of each speaker and their packaging. I did this ALL on 7-4-2020...yes, indeed! So, please see the photos, they are worth thousands of words.Overall, these speakers are made for folks who still listen to CDs and even vinyl records. If your a music-online-streamer, this is not your speaker! I use these solely for playing CDs (Compact Discs), and also FM / AM radio, that’s it! They sound superb...highs, mids, lows, bass, treble, vocals, etc.Lastly, again, I have these both wired to a Yamaha stereo-receiver and also to a Sony CD and radio player. I’ll spare you the technical details, as I’m no expert and don’t want to act like it! These speakers work great for me and for others like me...thank you for reading!Notes:* I ‘blacked-out‘ the Serial Number via my smartphone.* Packaging shown is for 2 speakers.* Manuals shown are for 2 speakers.* Speaker itself shown is only 1 speaker.* I did not remove the black speaker-cover...the actual speakers are right behind them. I rarely take it off, only have done so 2 separate times.

Great home theatre and music speaker
I just received mine last week and added them to my home theatre. I replaced my front JBL E80's. This is a different class of sound. The bass is awesome. I just watched Pacific Rim with my son, and he could not believe I did not have my subwoofer on. I am hearing things now that I never heard with the E80's, and they are great speakers also. My wife laughs because I come home from work and just like to sit back and listen to my system now. They have more than enough bass. They shake my house at a little over 50% of volume. The mid and highs are where this speaker really shines in my opinion. They do like power though, so I would consider a strong receiver. I have a Denon AVR-1913 at 90 watts per channel, and it drives them well, but I can tell there is much more potential in these speakers. They shine with Blu Ray movies and music. As said before, you can get speakers with more audiophile specs, but if you don't have thousands to spend on speakers, you might want to get a set of these before they are gone. At this price, they are an incredible bargain.Update: Still loving these speakers. I know the arguments over speaker break in periods, but they sound better after a couple months. I cant say enough about the bass, and how clear the instruments are. It feels like I am in the recording studio with the artist. One recommendation though:POWER. You need to drive these with a powerful receiver. Everything sounds good, from Blu Ray to movies on Dish. I was about to spend a lot more money on a set of high end audiophile speakers before I bought these, but now I am glad that I went with these. Unless you are a sound engineer, you wont be able to tell the difference between these and speakers costing much more. Good sound is good sound, no matter the cost. Good job JBL.

Disappointed
Disappointed! Very weak bass. I thought with dual 8 inch drivers per speaker thebass would be much stronger. Fit and finish appears well done.

love it
could not be more pleased. I've had a pair of jbl speakers L100's that i have had since the late 70's that are my favorites. So when i needed some extra speakers for a new sound system i went with old reliable JBL and i was not disappointed. The L100's bring out a little more bass but very similar. i five star product for me.
