so far so good
Just got this Tomtom runner today from Abon, amazon reseller, great price and quick shipping, and no, i'm not affiliated with them, just trying to save some folks a few bucks. So i'll be testing it out during the next few weeks. But just a quick review for now on functionality. Large clear display. The display has a backlight for night running. It's easy to turn on, 3 very small dots near right side of display and a light touch on that area and the backlight comes on or off. the large square button below has a tactile feedback to acknowledge button presses. Right to select sport, down for settings, left for status. On this watch, sports selections are run, treadmill and stopwatch. Not sure if run can keep track of elapsed laps on run, but stopwatch does and you can scroll up and down to see times. But i'll test out the run function today, the run display shows duration, time, pace , avg pace, distance, calories, heart rate that you can change through the up/down button. To not accidentally stop your run, you have to hold down the left and it counts down 3 seconds to end the run. Can't be any easier then that. When you first unpack it, you log into TomTom's website and download the sw, it loads pretty quickly and once that's running, you just register an account in their fitness site. With the watch plugged into USB port, it automatically detects sw version. It downloaded and loaded 2 updates. Very easy and relatively quick. This works with a Polar H7 heart rate monitor which I bought from B&H for 58, so my total was about 198 shipped, compared to 219 with heart rate monitor. With the extra 21 bucks I bought a square trade 3 year warranty for it, and still saved a buck lol.Functionality wise, will try out the run function today and will post an update. But did go outside to see how long gps took to aquire. I counted about 56 seconds the first time, but I was sitting near a building. But after that, I turned off the watch, turned it back on and it acquired in about 3 seconds. So to me that's very acceptable. It's also waterproof up to 5 atmosphere's it says. Good if you run in rain. I'm running around a park with some buildings and trees later, so i'll see if it has any trouble dropping out or not, but for now 4 stars as I feel it's a good product that does what it states.Design, I do like square styling, grey/black body is generic and matches with different color bands they sell as well as bike fittings and other accessories for it. The one thing I think is just slightly flimsy is the way it mounts into the watch band, it's just a very thin ridge and I popped it out and dropped it on the floor a few times as it just comes off so easily. The band itself is plasticky but it seems durable and does the job. The usb charger plug works fine and was easy to use, and seems to charge relatively quickly off the usb.Lastly I like the fact that TomTom is continually updating features in this watch and I feel I have my money's worth rather then companies who sell something and there will be no updates at all. Will change to 5 stars after my test run depending on how well it works. But good job TomTom, next I hope you design a watch that doesn't need a chest band but gets heart info right from the wrist and i'm there.update: gps tracks really well. it shows my exact route on a map after it syncs up with mysports website. I read the watch tracks laps by distance or time and keeps track that way which i will try once i get back to the track. The race yourself feature is great too. lots of different ways to gauge progress.

Good quality and value, however the lack of a split-lap function for a race or track work out is surprising and disappointing
This was my first GPS runner's watch. I've run more than a dozen marathons and was looking for a tool that would help me improve my speed and measure my distance and pace. This watch has done that. Especially beneficial is that mapmyrun interface ... easy to use, reliable, accurate. Almost wants me to stop keeping my running journal. The watch is stylist and very easy to set up. Surprising is how long it stays charged; that you can charge it with a USB-plug adapter into the wall and the storage is fairly large. I'd estimate it can store roughly 60 miles of runs before getting full; but you can still use all the functions of the watch without it storing your times. The price is affordable. The watch is durable and the watchband is pretty good _ I have a narrow wrists and the band if very adjustable and comfortable The negatives are: 1. It varies how long it will pick up the satellite. Sometimes the watch will pick up the satellite 10 steps outside my house; other times a half-mile. 2. When you end your work out, the only way to review your workout is by downloading the information and seeing it on the mapmyrun web-site. It is not reviewable in the watch. 3 BIGGEST disappointment is you do not have a lap-split function. I'm getting ready to run my first marathon with the watch _ and it will do a good job keeping my distance and current pace, but I do not have an option to hit a button to get a time split for every mile/kilometer. Kind of disappointing.

Does its job for a moderate price
I usually avoid spending this much money on anything but I needed something that could measure my distance without strapping my phone to me as I ran/rucked because 1; I have LG V10 and that thing is too big to carry around when running so I bought this. I bought it and have not looked back since. This is a good GPS watch that does a good job with tracking your movement and locking on to your signal fast (30 seconds and under if good signal) not only does this watch track distance but it shows you at what pace you run at which is very helpful to me because I suck at pacing myself, this watch helps me out with that thus decreased my run times by a good amount. This is a light watch and comfortable to wear, I could not care less of the style of this watch as long as it does its job so I’ll say it looks fine. Navigating the watch options is easy with the key press button (better than touchscreen in my opinion). The battery life on this watch is solid, so far I used the GPS function for a 5.5 mile run then had it on as a regular watch for the rest of the day and the battery was at full. Storage on this watch is good, it can hold up a lot of saved data so far I’m only at 1 bar with 15+ runs saved on it since I bought it. Hooking the watch up to the computer will update the GPS function and upload your runs to the "MySports" web page which is TomTom's website that you can use to revisit the runs with calorie count, step count, elevation, pace, distance and shows a nice google maps view of where you ran, you can also to export this data to other websites that track your workouts such as; jawbone, Nike etc... The "MySport" website has another tab that posts "challenges" for you to undertake if interested, it states the distance of the run and the time it needs to be completed by (ex: 3 miles in 25 minutes) I never took them because I have my own running to worry about but it's there. Lastly is the Bluetooth function that can pair the watch to your phone. I have an Android phone so I downloaded "MySports" app from Google Play store. The current review for this app is 2.5 stars because in the past you could not synchronize your watch to your phone thus making it useless however with a recent update I was able to connect my watch to my phone. The app is fine; it uploads your activities to your phone app for you to view on your mobile, it also updates the GPS function of your watch through your phone as well, the app does what the TomTom website "MySports" does, shows the run, trail map and all other functions I listed out above. All in all, its a good watch, does its job, easy to use and navigate. I don’t know what a $250 Fitbit GPS watch does and I don’t care, for $80 I am very satisfied all I’m hoping for is that this watch lasts me at least two (2) years.

I'm buying another one
Fell while out running yesterday and smashed my watch glass as my wrist hit a rock. Can't blame Tomtom for even gorilla glass might have broken with the blow I gave it. I note that even the Apple sports watch has glass which is easy to break. I'm a keen runner and have been using HRMs since Polar brought them out in 1990s, and over the years used a series of GPS watches when they became affordable. I'm not a triathlete and don't want to measure my swims, though I do like uploading my bike rides as a diary. Two things I learnt from yesterday are that I don't want to pay an enormous amount for a watch which is going to be subjected to rough treatment, and secondly that I really like the Tomtom runner which I've just had since March, and so I'm purchasing another one. The watch is not perfect. Instant pace is ridiculously laggy, and the treadmill distance estimation is a joke. However instant speed seems accurate, fairly prompt, and I prefer to monitor that rather than pace. Step counting is also accurate. What I really like about the Tomtom is the speed of its GPS location and the way in which it holds the signal. It can even give location when I am indoors, something that was beyond my previous GPS watches. I also very much like the control button which I find easy to use particularly during races when hand eye coordination is not at its best. Also the slim design of the watch means it's satisfactory as an everyday watch. And the screen is very easy to see. I don't have a problem wearing a chest strap and have one already, but it will be interesting to see how cardio monitoring develops. The bluetooth link to my smartphone is potentially very good, but as some others have reported I find it very hit and miss. When it works it's great. But I regularly am being asked to enter a code which I haven't received. I'm hoping that Tomtom will fix it. The Tomtom running software is not particularly good, but the link to Strava and Endomondo is simple to set up and very quick. Well done to Tomtom for facilitating that.

Ottimo prodotto

Not bad for the price - takes a little getting used to
I was limited by budget but wanted a running watch to upgrade from my bog standard Casio with a stopwatch. This seemed to be the best option available for the price. The watch itself looks good, a bit like an Apple watch at a quick glance. There are other strap colours you can swap to but I stuck with the black with green. Functionality wise it's quite simple on the surface with stopwatch, pace, distance and options for adding in heart rate. Where it really works though is syncing with the app after your exercise which displays rich, detailed data and overlays of maps where you've run/cycled etc. I even wear it to play footie and use it as a bit of a heat map, more for fun. I'd say it falls-down on two main things which is the illumination button which I really struggle with tapping when running in the dark and also it finding the satellites to sync with before you run - have often had to wait around a while before I can set-off. Not bad for the money once you get used to it if you are a low-medium frequency/seriousness runner.
