Great dashcam. Should get 5 stars except for reasons noted.
UPDATED my review after two day's use and some more testing. The camera was relatively easy to setup. The cord was long enough to snake around my dash (I drive an SUV). The videos are clear and seamless from file to file. The camera is very unobtrusive and hides fairly well behind my rearview mirror. All in all it appears to be a very concealable dash cam that takes good clear videos and pictures.Once you work your way around the buttons for the menus it is very simple to use.I originally gave the camera 3 stars due to the reasons listed below. However, after updating points 2 and 5 I raised the rating to 4 stars. I still cannot get a screen capture during video playback. I can do so in the software package I used (DataKam - freeware).1) The "manual" is terrible. The transliterated English is off in places. There is not much in the way of explanations for some of the settings. What do the various settings mean? I used an online video review that was much better than the manual. The review was by someone named ChristmasShopper and was excellent.2) UPDATED - Please read all. When I attempted to use the DVRPlayer.exe software to view the files and gps data I received a malware error from Norton 360. It claims that player is infected with Suspicious.Cloud.9 malware and it quarantines the file. Thus, you have to get third party software to run the data on your computer.UPDATE: I contacted Symantec Norton 360 and they reviewed the file. They said that 360 was generating a FALSE ALERT. The file DVRPlayer appears to be fine. Norton will remedy their virus alerts on the next update.3) If you set Motion Detection to on it is relatively difficult (impossible) to grab a picture.4) Supposedly, you should be able to capture a screen capture during video playback. I cannot get this to work unless I do it on the computer software.5) UPDATED: I originally wrote that the GPS function worked well but the speed indicator was off. I ran a more comprehensive test today and called out speeds so that I could record them on the audio and compare the actual speed with the recorded speed. I got fairly good results with +/- 2 miles per hour (well within error on calling the speed from the speedometer).

I like it!
One star off for the User Manual and dvr player software. I found the manual difficult to comprehend, and it took a while to figure out how to operate the camera. However, there is a very detailed user guide at Carcam Warehouse, http://carcamwarehouse.com/mini_0801_manual.html , which helped out immensely. In addition, the dvr player software included on the internal flash would not operate on my Win 8 computer, and installed a Trojan virus. Forget that program, and use the free Registrator Viewer program which is available online.Once you figure out how to operate it, the camera itself works very well. The definition of the video is excellent, and the camera takes decent video in varying light conditions, both in the daytime and at night. The Registrator Viewer software shows the trip video alongside of a moving GPS location map (or satellite view), along with the speed, compass direction, and G force graphs and indicators.Mounting was easy using the 3M adhesive backed GPS module/mounting block. I chose to mount the dashcam behind the rear view mirror, and it is completely out of my view and non-obstructing. I did place a small piece of black tape over the LED status indicator because the blue light was distracting to my passenger. A spare adhesive pad is included should the dashcam need to be repositioned. The included power cord was long enough to run across the top of the windshield, down the side column, and across under the dash to the center console power port. The power cord fit easily under the flexible trim strips without having to remove them, and is completely invisible after installation except for the plug. From my experience so far, I would recommend this product. I feel that it provides excellent performance and value for a reasonable cost..

Feature-rich, very tiny dashcam
This review is for the E-PRANCE® Mini 0801 with built-in 8Gb memory and GPS.The setup was easy, but you might need a magnifying glass to see the tiny icons and lettering on the screen. The instruction book is not great, as described by other reviews, but the only discrepancy I found was the inability to turn Off the chime, contrary to the instructions. Also, I can't seem to get the clock/calendar to display the correct day/date, but I don't count this as a serious defect. My camera is hard-wired in my late-model Corolla with a PAPAGO UDC-US Compact Mini USB power supply. It is mounted as high as possible, with the lens in the centerline of the car. The entire camera is blocked from my view by the inside rear view mirror; just what I want. I hope it will remain unused for the life of the car! Due to the angle of the windshield, both the E-PRANCE and PAPAGO power cords must be modified. The strain-relief housing must be sliced (very carefully) to allow a shorter radius of the cable. Otherwise, the camera will be unable to be mounted vertically. The field-of-view and resolution will be more than adequate for evidentiary purposes, should the need arise. Some questions have been asked about the ability to resolve license tag numbers. This camera has a photo feature. Momentarily pressing the ON-OFF button takes a single photo. If you setup the camera to the highest pixel setting, you can capture a very high-quality image that can be enlarged with ease.

Great little dashcam at a reasonable cost
Bought from Amazon UK.If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. There are four configurations of this device; in terms of price:1. No GPS, no internal memory2. No GPS, 8GB internal memory3. GPS, no internal memory4. GPS, 8GB internal memory - this is the one I'm reveiwing here.Let's face it, you buy a dash cam to protect yourself from lying halfwits who do everything they can to avoid responsibility for accidents. And so it was for me, after being pranged in the rear on a roundabout. When choosing a dash cam you want something that's discrete, reliable, and produces high quality recordings. With a name like E-PRANCE, you may be a little wary, but this is a well-built device that produces very good quality recordings. It is a genuine Mini 0801 device, not a cheap knock-off. I bought it after reading / viewing the review on techmoan.com, and I chose the model with built-in 8GB memory and GPS recording. The fact this unit does not have a suction mount was another important factor for me, in addition to size, features, and ease of use.In the box you receive the camera, a single mount (the GPS receiver is in the mount itself, not a separate unit or in the camera itself as with some devices), the cigarette lighter power plus (3 metres), short USB cable for data transfer to a PC/Mac, spare sticky pad, and instruction booklet that is written is reasonable English. The camera has a back up battery (not a capacitor) that lasts for about 10 minutes.Setting up the camera was simple, but the screen can be difficult to read. It took me a while to realise that although I had set the time correctly, the default time zone is GMT +7 hours. So all my test recordings appeared to have the incorrect time stamped on them. As soon as you turn on your car, the camera begins to record. I tend to turn my engine off when sitting in longer queues, but in the C1/107/Aygo, power to the lighter socket is supplied when the ignition is turned to position 1 (first click of the key when turned.) [The lighter, immobiliser, and radio are all powered by the same circuit - fuse 11 - should you wish to use that circuit to hard wire the camera in.]Other features:As well as video, pressing the OK key will take a photo whether you're recording or not; it will also take a snapshot of the video during playback; You can calibrate the G-sensor;The G sensor in the latest firmware has ranges from OFF to 5G in 0.5G steps. I've left it at the default value of 3G which means video files aren't locked/protected from erasure just because you've driven over a speed hump or pot hole; The GPS signal locks on very quickly; The unit records h.264 video in a .MOV container; Each file has an accompanying GPS .LOG file;Photo resolution can be set to 0.9, 3, 4, or 12 MP (interpolated); With a constant power supply, this unit can act as a motion camera. There is no software supplied for playing back the video + GPS data on a Max (OS X), but Windows software is supplied on the internal memory. Mac users may wish to try the free (beta) software from http://www.ojocam.com/downloads/* * * * *The device was a *little* fiddly to install in my car, not because of the design of the unit, but because of the position/size of the rear view mirror in the Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo/Peugeot 107. Once I'd found the ideal position (to the bottom right of the rear view mirror's mount) it took just seconds to stick the holder to the required position on the windscreen. I also wanted to conceal the cable; this easy to do - just tuck it under the rim of the head liner, then behind the A frame... WARNING! The headliner in the C1/107/Aygo feels as if it's made from the same papier mâché as egg boxes, so take care when prising! The A frame is very easily removed - gently lift the weather seal and prise off the plastic cover; it just snaps back into place, and there is plenty of room behind it for the cable without fear of damage.* * * * *Long term reliability has not yet been determined.

Quick review of Mini 0801
I chose this one as it received pretty favourable reviews. For a more in depth review go to Techmoan on YouTube. There is also an overview of car DVR cameras. I have the model with GPS.It arrived in 8 days from Hong Kong, which is not bad. The instructions are not the best, but understandable. This DVR uses a 3M sticky pad on the mount, there is not a suction pad. Make sure you sort out the exact spot to put the mount before you apply it !! Do a dry run first. If you put in the wrong spot there is a spare pad enclosed. Remove the old one by sawing it off with dental floss, strange but it works. Also clean the inside of the windscreen well. I ran the USB cable under the roof lining trim at the front and down the A pillar trim. Car is a Citroen Xsara Picasa. This was down the drivers side.Set up the menu settings outside of the car. Its a small screen , so you will need good eyesight. Important to set up the time and date. The GPS time may not match the actual time. This may depend on the firmware version. Mine is 40414 and seems to be correct. Lots on setting up on Techmoan . On the later versions of this device you can select MPH, the older one were KPH only. When you have finished slot the camera into the mount plug in the PSU into the 12 volt socket. The camera can be rotated on the mount to get the angle correct. Go for a test drive to check all is OK.The soft ware to play back is embedded in the camera, and will transfer to your Micro SD card. Its works, but better software is available from Registrator. Do a search, its a Russian Web site, but English is available. This is far better, a review is on YouTube. The only major problem I have found on my car, and this would apply to any make of DVR , is that I have fitted it in front of the rear view mirror, which is the ideal place. However it looks through a part of the windscreen that is missed by the wipers. This does cause some problems when it rains which it was today during testing. I may have a solution, which is an anti rain coating for the windscreen. will apply some and retest.I have set my record segment to 3 minutes, the total recording time on a 32 gb card is about 5 hours. Sound was on by default. One last thing, its a very small capacity internal battery fitted. About 10 minutes running time when not connected to the car or a computer.

E prance mini dash cams overheat and units burns out.
Although this Dash cam mini 801 has good HD quality video and good features for a start off unit. But let down by overheating and the unit burns out. Not able to use thereafter. This is the second unit i have tried and both burned out. So please think very carefully when thinking to purchase this model. Even though it has had good reviews hence my reason to buy in the first placeI also purchased a E-PRANCE® Mini 0805 HD after giving up on the Mini 801 and after receiving the newer model 805 it is was disappointing on HD video quality recording at 1296 at 30FPS, I could only view my recorded clips on a laptop computer. Also noticed that some TV's don't support 1296 screen resolution, even though my TV is a new HD smart one . Oh and by the way the unit does heat up at lot especially near the micro SD slots and USB connectors. Be careful as these have metal connectors get HOT! as the camera is quite compact.

Great product and good customer service
I bought this following much research of various units. I liked in particular it's size and mount which means you don't see it from inside or out. I had issues with intermittent quality of recordings on the first unit and the customer support was excellent, the unit was returned and replaced. The second unit then had similar issues and also kept turning itself off. I could have returned for refund without issue but found that putting a smaller capacity card solved the issues and now it works perfectly. The video quality is superb and wide angle lens doesn't miss anything. Easy to use and set up though the manual is vague. The PC only software is nice but you can also view the videos on a Mac using QuickTime. In all despite the issues I recommend this but use a smaller capacity card than the 32GB that is says is OK

Good, but only in daylight
I've got a pair of these in my second car - one front facing and one rear facing. The front one has the optional GPS receiver so that the speed and location is also logged. The picture quality is very good in daylight but much less so at night - in fact you can't make out any fine detail at all at night - I had a very near miss one night last winter and went to replay the incident, and shockingly I could see very little - of anything! In the daylight its fine, but be warned, at nighttime its not much use at all. I've bought an LS420W for my main car which is superb in all conditions.
