DSM 5 in Action is a must have in the Social Work field
I have attended Dr D's seminar on preparing for licensing exam and her DSM5 in Action book is just an amazing help to know how treatment is applied to the categories in the DSM5. Dr D breaks down the information into language that non doctors can understand and enables the reader to effectively and confidently treat clients based on the diagnosis they have been given. I recommend this book to college students and new social workers going into the Social Work field, supervisors in treatment agencies, and professors to use in teaching about the DSM 5 diagnosis and treatment.

Would be a great resource if it was more concise
I liked this book, but felt that there was a lot of repetitive content..or maybe just too much extra stuff. Not sure exactly which, to be honest. It was required for a class to go alongside our reading of the DSM-5. And it helped, but...eh, it could have reduced the information to a more concise format and been a better resource. There were several case studies in each chapter, and while the book walked you through them, again, it just seemed after awhile like, 'blah, blah, blah'. If it was lists, tables, bulleted points - it would have been an incredible resource to have alongside the DSM-5 for new professionals to the field, and I would have purchased it rather than rented it.

This text is a very well written and mostly clearly understood piece of work. The reason I said mostly understood is the detail is excellent, but as with any assessment tool such as this, reviewing the DSM-V information and criteria for diagnoses that have cross-over symptoms makes it slightly difficult to find the correct diagnosis the first time. Otherwise, the use of the clinical impressions then take more precedent.

Illustrative Text Book!
Very good book! The author did a great job in breaking out key sections that showed the differences between the DSM IV-TR and the DSM 5; further, the case examples and proposed treatment plans were also very well done and would easily provide students with solid illustrative points of differential diagnosis and treatment. This text is good for first year graduate students and seasoned clinicians alike. Great job!

Poor quality/high price tag
Not impressed for how much this book costs! The pages are thin and the book smells a little weird. There is a huge line of thick glue protruding between the front cover & the first page (see photo). When using a standard yellow highlighter, it easily BLEEDS through to the other side, which is my MAIN complaint! (**SEE PHOTOS** of highlights bleeding through from previous page!!)I had to have it for class, or I definitely would have returned it based solely on the rather poor quality for the high price!Maybe it’s a knock-off/bootleg? Not sure, but it’s not what I would consider a normal quality textbook.

Nice summary of many dsm chapters
Quite a few chapters of the DSM 5 aren’t covered in here which I didn’t realize. Great insights to the chapters that are covered however.

Good but..
Good book but you would think for the amount of money you are spending you would get one that wasn’t cracked at the seam or bent pages. That part is a little ridiculous
