Excellent MES reference
This book is a comprehensible guide for MES. It offers a good overview of the current state of production needs regarding a Manufacturing Execution System and the already available concepts. General information is provided and different tools are compared. Also the question is asked, whether and when the implementation of an MES makes sense and how the implementation can be accomplished. The authors not only summarized their own thoughts about and experiences with MES but also made a whole lot of research. Thus, the book provides information about different MES and similar tools and considers different point of views. The content is held neutral and doesn't promote one certain tool, as is often the case in other books (and this even though two of the authors are working for an MES provider).Altogether the book is, though full of technical data and details, written in a very comprehensible way. Many process charts further deepen the understanding, and also does the large glossary. It will be a valuable reading for providers as well as users of an MES and also provides a good overview of the state of the art for anyone who is interested in this topic. This book is a serious specialist publication that is still comfortably to read.
