Perfect Gift!
I purchased this as a gift for myself and to add some color above my sink. The box came with everything intact and would make a great gift. I only gave the item 4 stars because the directions to put this together were difficult to understand. I eventually gave up and looked at the picture on the box, tossed the directions and hoped for the best. 10 days later and all 3 seed packets are sprouting! Highly recommend!

Planters were easy but ultimately overwatered my plants
The setup for these planters was really easy the first time, but thats really all that went well. The hydroponic system overwatered the plants and caused white mold buildup in the soil. It couldn't properly dry out because of the charcoal covering. I will be trying these again, perhaps outside this time and without charcoal, but they are much harder to set up/adjust for a second round.

If your short on seeds just buy them from lowes or somewhere its easier.
It's a good idea one pack of seeds had two seeds in it. So I called the company and told them and it was then a hassle to get help. So I went to lowes and bought the seeds for .99 and placed them in a jar and watch them grow.

Poor survival rate, loss of money.
I bought 3 sets for my daughters. Only 1 had success. The other 2 they grew a little and died. These prefer to be in small hothouse as that is the one that survived. Maybe they don’t like air conditioning?

Didn't work for me!
First of all, let me be clear that I followed all instructions as written. Yes, the seeds did germinate but never grew taller than 3 inches with very delicate stems. I had them on a windowsill that only received about two hours of direct sunlight so I transitioned them outdoors to full sunlight and that fried them! The final layer of soil is a black charcoal type rock which may have been the culprit. It's too bad...I was hoping for a steady supply of cilantro. I gave it two stars because although it did not work for me, it was packaged well. Now they are just very expensive mason jars I use in my pantry.

It works! If you follow directions
Three boys plus three jars plus three herbs made this the ideal purchase! Once it arrived we gaudily opened it up. READ the directions and there should be no problems! Our cilantro is the only one that fizzled out but we plan on trying other herbs to see if they can grow. Mint and Basil coming along. Our boys have tuned this into a distance learning science project

Didn't grow
Followed directions. They only sprouted and then died. I found out that the roots aren't supposed to get sunlight. How to avoid that with a glass jar?

Did not successfully grow herbs.
It seemed like a good concept, however, after following the directions implicitly, all of the seedlings died. This occurred after the plants had developed to the point that the plant food was to be added.I may, at some future time, try using it again but it will be with another form of plant food. This will help to determine if the fertilizer and not the system is the problem.I have had much better success transplanting small herb plants to water and being able to harvest from them for a couple of months.
