Better than expected!
Akito Desert Pants (Sand/Black, Large)Knew there might be a fit issue if I got the XL to use as overpants after reading reviews, so I got the L. After loosing another 10-15 lbs. they'll be PERFECT as overpants for anything. Right now, shorts are the order of the day. Length is perfect to (I'm a 37W 32L).They're not heavy at all after you remove the waterproof and thermal liners. Yes, TWO liners! I must of missed that in my research. They have a waterpeoof liner AND a thermal liner that can be used individually or together. . . I was pleasantly surprised. The knee armor is big enough and in the right place for me. Lucky, as it's placement isn't adjustable. The only thing missing is hip armor plates. There are pockets for the plates at both hips, you just have to purchase them (they're also not going to be adjustable).Overall, very, very happy. Oh, one review said the 'sand' color was closer to white. It kinda is, but it's still 'sandy' and would look very good, with the matching Desert jacket, especially on a dual-sport rider (very 'military'/'middle-of-nowhere-adventure' looking, by the way). I ride wearing a decidedly white leather jacket and helmet, and unless I REALLY make an issue of the pants being not-quite-white, I get called out for looking like a Stormtrooper from Star Wars (ha-ha). As long as I'm SEEN while on the road, I'm cool with it.*UPDATE*After a couple of weeks with these pants I'm still very happy. With no thermal liner in they're still warm and comfortable enough in 50 deg. weather. The two vents below the front pockets don't really seem to do much, but I've not been in REALLY hot temps. . . yet. All in all, give 'em a try and IMHO, you wont be sorry.

Like the Akito Jacket, these Pants are VERY Well Thought Out!
I have the Akito Desert Jacket so getting these pants was the logical next step as soon as I had budget for it. Thing is about any pants of this nature is ease of use; can I make them "over pants" with the idea of getting in and out of them fairly quickly if for instance I decide to ride to work in the rain? Should I just wear undies underneath especially when it's cold and wet, both liners (thermal & Gortex) present? These are the questions I was wondering about before purchase. So I just took a risk and got the next size up (XX-Large) thinking that I might just be able to use them as either over-pants OR just riding pants... Keep in mind that I'm 6' 1" with 34" inseam so these XX-Large pants are just right with a little extra but frankly just barely worked as over pants, over jeans but over my standard work slacks (not as thick as jeans) the pants were just about perfect. These pants, like the jacket are VERY well thought out but also do have some short comings in my way of thinking. 1st, the integrated knee pads are a bit small and bare a resemblance to the shoulder pads in the jacket, leaving me feeling not as well protected as I had hoped, what with my knees being quite a bit bigger than my shoulders. I have plans to remove these and try some strap on knee pads that do a better job, though this may not work well with the over-pant idea in play, still have to try it. Next, is a small set of pretty thin hip pads that I'm not sure will protect much and that almost look like an afterthought. I again may try some specialized pads that I cut to size myself that are more protective but not much thicker... Overall though I am happy with the purchase and still feel these are the best dollar value in class! Oh and did I mention that pants & jacket worn with white Dual Sport helmet look really good and are very visible! I've not had anyone pull in front of me while wearing this suit! If you've ridden for a while then you know how important visibility to all drivers around you is!

except that the plastic loop waistband tighteners are far too flimsy and broke easily. Also they are not made in different leg .
OK, except that the plastic loop waistband tighteners are far too flimsy and broke easily. Also they are not made in different leg sizes, and as such are too short for me. The zippers on the linings at the bottom of the legs (inside) will dig into your leg if you wear boots over the top if you don't put them on carefully

1500mi review.
Bought them during Winter and had high expectations since it was a perfect fit for me. However, after riding 1500 miles in them (in perfect Spring weather - no rain whatsoever), all I can say is that they are falling apart. If you often do 700mi in a weekend, then, this is not for you.

QC defect or just skipping on quality
I really wanted to like these pants especially the color and the overall look of the pants. However this was short-lived whenever the buckle for the strap adjustments on both sides of the pants at the top broke off with just a little bit of pull for adjustment. This is very frustrating considering the amount of money that I paid for these pants, but instead of waiting to send this off back to Amazon waiting 6 to 8 weeks to get it back ,in the mean time not having any pants so I. decided to just fix it myself with some super glue and gorilla tape maybe that works maybe it won't but I'll come up with something else. I really can't recommend these pants because of this.

Great fit and protection
These are AMAZING pants.. I'm 5'10 and my weight is 155 pounds if that helps I got a medium size pants and they resist wind really good. When it's cold I close all the vents (which also work good) but in all you get what you pay for and you get a perfect product

Decent value/performance.
These are pretty comfortable. The zippers aren't the greatest and with all liners, if you decide you need to remove one, you will need to remove your pants, and boots, which in the desert is not a good idea. The pockets are good/reasonable.
