The most useful book I have found on Borland C++
I have worked as a programmer or taught programming most of my working life and C++ is my language of choice. Borland have produced some excellent products going right back to Turbo Pascal which I enjoyed in the early eighties. If you are developing applications for Windows then Delphi or C++ Builder are the most productive tools to use. C# and .NET are attractive but not all machines will have the .net framework, and it is a big install. The event and component paradigm in MSVC is more labour intensive to use. So I have stayed with C++ Builder. The only downside with Borland is the documentation is not brilliant, and this book fills lots of the gaps. It is a huge undertaking, and not one of great literary merit, but the information is worth ten times the price. I was initially put off by the negative review, but reading that again, it is ill-informed. There is no difficulty finding the component names. They are not a closely guarded secret but easily available from the HELP menu in the product! This book tells you the facts that are missing from the Borland documentation and HELP, and not what is obvious. It is not a book for beginners though. This is for the serious developer and it repays study with a degree of concentration. I am very well pleased with my purchase, which cost about 0.3 pence per page!

Everything you wanted to know about Borland C++ but didn't know what to ask..
Since Microsoft doesn't believe in backward compatibility, This guide gives an ability to have 'Help' when needed. Also has tips that I never knew about. I learned C/C++ by writing code and using Help. This book has already (150 pgs into it) provided fresh information that I'll use in the future.

Having several difficulties reading this book
I am reading through this book and have experienced the followingissues: 1. The CD does not contain the examples that the author refers to in the book. Chapter 2 refers to a debug example on the CD and Chapter 3 refers to a DragDrop project. Both these projects do not exist on the CD. I had to stop and write a review at this point where I am only in Chapter 3... 2. Many sections in the book are not organized and leave the reader totally confused. Chapter 3 explains about frames... I had to skip that section as I could not understand anything. A constructive example would be much better.I am somewhat disappointed with the publisher Daniel

Makes a great doorstop
The reason I gave this book 1 star is because there is nothing smaller. The CD contains the same stuff you can download from Borland's web site. In fact, the book is a compilation of help screens, tutorials, and published sample applications. Borland's help is obscure at best. Taking the SAME data and putting it in print doesn't make it clear, just heavy. My particular interest was in their implementation of OpenGL. The description says "discover the latest in multi-media techniques with OpenGL". One paragraph that mentions two examples on the CD rom (The same two examples that you get for free with the eval version).Don't waste your money.
