Fantastic
If you like well written, in this case acted I suppose, historical drama, fro me, this set the bar. Really good, as good as, or better than, reading the book yourself.

An interesting take on history
I first heard 'Falco' as a radio play, and it intrigued me! It tells the story of 'Falco' who works as an investigator for various Senators and even for the Roman Emperor. The love of his life is a Senator's daughter - but being a former soldier, and of a totally different and much lower class than her, there seems no chance of them being able to marry. His work takes him to different parts of the Empire, and in doing so introduces us to various characters and occupations from the late second century AD.I found all five of the plays to be an enjoyable and easy listen.(These are my own thoughts on an item I have purchased)

What is Wrong With The Sound??
A CD box set of this collection appeared in my local Library's catalogue recently and I borrowed it - I'm so glad I didn't buy an audio download as not only is the whole collection in Mono when the serials have been broadcast many times in Stereo, but the sound quality is appalling, like poor quality MP3s.These adaptations of Lindsey Davis' outstanding Falco series are superb but caveat emptor, if the sound quality of the audio download is as bad as the version cast out for Library users by W.F. Howes who are partnering the BBC for a number of releases.

Great Dramatisation
I loved this dramatisation when I first heard it a few years ago. Since then I have been reading the Falco books and really enjoying Lindsey Davis's Roman detective. The brilliant Anton Lesser has the perfect tone of voice for the character of Falco and I always hear his voice when I read the books. His performance reflects the sense of humour throughout thebooks despite the sometimes horrific background of the Roman Empire at its height.

Anton Lesser is good value
These radio plays are completely carried by Anton Lesser, supporting cast are fine. The writing and pacing are a bit odd in places, and well, some stories are definitely stronger than others. Buy it to listen to Anton Lesser that is worth the money.
