Item Sipped is not what is pictured. Even Cheaper Knockoff will arrive.
The item pictured is not the item you will receive. The one pictured has the label on the wide side of the plug. Which has the BlueOBD v1.6 board inside it and works really great with programs like Torque. The one you will receive has the label on the narrow side of the plug and is a super cheap Chinese knockoff of that board. That works with nothing. You will struggle to get it to connect to any Bluetooth to start, and then even when it does it will not connect to the ECU. On some vehicles it will start disabling or changing systems. When plugged into a 2010 Silverado it will disable the traction control and Limited Slip features of the rear end. On a 2015 Nissan Altima it will shut flash random data on the screen between the gauges. On a 1996 Silverado it will do nothing at all except turn on the red light.I specifically ordered this unit because it picture the GOOD version of this device, but received the wrong one. Returning it, hoping to ever find the good version again.

Simple enough to use, works just fine.
After borrowing my friend's OBD2 a few times I decided I wanted to get my own. This is a very simple, handy device that lets you access information from the Engine Control Unit using a smart phone running a program such as Torque. You will be connecting to the device using bluetooth, unless you have your phone rooted in which case you could connect using wifi if you wish. The device seems to work perfectly, I was skeptical about the low price, but I have not had any problems yet. For now, it is just a very reasonably priced gadget as far as I am concerned. It is re-assuring to have it in my vehicle and I can impress my friends by checking out their error codes for them and putting them on the right path to solving their vehicle issues. The first time connecting to it took some time, but now it is very fast. Glad I bought it.

Mostly Works Great (Updated)
Out of the box it works, but very slow paired with my iPhone in comparison to a bluetooth scan tool I bought (that uses an Android tablet). Updates for live data are a couple seconds apart, and that makes things pretty much un-useable. Might be a problem with WiFi communication, or could be due to a slow device - don't know. Might be able to rectify the slowness problem with some work, but I already have one that works fast. So I choose not to.Update: Found that the Engine Link software (a paid app) was the the issue. I assume it must has something to do with the communication protocol being used. This extremely simple app even looks like it should be free. Sometimes you don't get what you pay for!OBD Car Doctor (a free app) updates data 3 times/sec with this OBD2 adapter and this is perfectly acceptable. Haven't figured out how to display multiple data parameters at the same time like in Torque, but evaluating software is not the purpose of this review. The adapter works great with my 2008 Ford Ranger and my Iphone 4s with iOS7.1.2.On my 2001 Blazer, a couple of things on the dash display of the car are disabled when the adapter is plugged in, but reading of data is just fine. The other adapter (bluetooth/android) that I bought to evaluate did not disable any dash displays on the car when plugged in, and that is the only reason why I give this one 4 stars and not 5.

I found the free OBDII scanner apps available through Windows worked the best. Yes
The scanner works as intended; however, after first trying to scan using a fire tablet, an iPhone SE, I found the free OBDII scanner apps available through Windows worked the best. Yes, all three worked, but with mixed results. I had trouble connecting to my tablet, I then switched to the iPhone, the app worked, the p[hone was able to connect to Wi-Fi, and I could read the codes. but I needed to upgrade to Pro to access a lot of data.and to clear the codes. The Windows phone is an inactive Nokia 635, and has worked consistently, and is not a dedicated OBDII scanner.I have the USB ELM327, with a copy of the licensed software installed, so I attempted to connect to the ieGeek from my desktop using a 600N Dongle, and it would not connect. So, I tried the included software; which does not include an activation key, to see if this would allow a connection; instead I received the same virus notification others have reported. As for now, the scanner works, is more convenient that the USB model and is %73 less than the legit model. Just do not install the provided software.

Awesome tool, so simple to use
This is a great, easy to use tool and for $17 you can't go wrong. Used on my iPhone 6+ with OBD Fusion app from the App Store ($10). Read and clear diagnostic codes, and can customize your own "dashboards" with meters and gauges that will show you all kinds of live data while you drive. The CD that was included wasn't even really necessary for me. Anyone giving this tool a 1 star review is probably not the brightest bulb on the tree to begin with, because this tool works great and is so simple to get working. It seriously takes less than a minute assuming you already have the app. I was curious about it using WiFi and how you connect it to a protected network before I got it, but the device itself actually shows up as its own WiFi network on your phone ("WiFi OBD II" is the name of the network), so you connect to its "network" in your phone settings and then go to the OBD Fusion app and hit "Connect" to communicate with the vehicle. Could not be simpler. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to be able to read Check Engine codes without going to a mechanic or auto part store.

Best buy for the price
Perfect tool for the buck!I didn't try the software included with it. I use iPhone apps which give lots of readings options.Carly for Mercedes is one of the best codes reader.Dash command is thebest gauges reader.
