Excellent keeb, though for the price I expected more.
This keyboard is a high-quality and attractive addition to any desk setup, but might lack some features found in less expensive boards. The aluminum case is beautiful and the overall build quality is top-notch. This board is indeed built like a tank. It weighs at least a few pounds, and the nice rubber feet keep it in place… no sliding here. Typing feels incredibly solid, the sound is crisp and doesn’t sound plasticy or hollow. The included RGBY and Mac keycaps are a fun way to customize the board’s look. USB-C connectivity gives me no issues as I’m typically not a fan of wireless devices. One issue I do have on the regular is the lack of a visible Caps Lock indicator. As-is, it’s near-impossible to tell if Caps Lock is on or off as the in-switch LED can’t shine through the opaque keycap, nor is it bright enough to shine under/around the cap. I see no reason why one of the very bright programming LEDs located literally beneath the Caps Lock key can’t instead be used to indicate Caps Lock. Another frustration was trying to get the keyboard to report the function keys properly on Mac. Using a combination of the keyboard’s OS selection (Win/Mac/*nix), BetterTouchTool, and Karabiner Elements, I was eventually able to get the function row to work as expected. I could be missing something here, or the keyboard is.As far as programmability goes, the board has several LEDs that light up corresponding to different functions or macro layers. The process for programming, while ultimately pretty simple, is hampered by a somewhat cryptic manual written for a different model (the Tab 90) with some differing features. For almost $200, I’d expect a better user guide and perhaps some more features like swappable switch sockets and RGB backlighting (based on some online discussion, modding may be possible as the PCB used within is similar enough to Vortexgear’s RGB models). If those two features, and Bluetooth connection, are your thing, I’d recommend one of Vortexgear’s other models with those features, or a different (and likely less-expensive) manufacturer altogether.Build Quality: 5/5 – Built like a tank, attractive aluminum case.Design/Keycaps: 5/5 – Fun RGBY keycaps, with some keys for Mac.Features/Programming: 3/5 – Once you figure out how, programming macros and remapping keys is pretty easy. Function row may or may not work out of the box.Customizability: 3/5 – keycaps are cool, but you can’t change the switches without desoldering them.
