Acceptable
I debated giving this item 3 stars because I'm certain some of the umbrellas I received are used. One of the white diffusion umbrellas has a light yellow stain, probably from a hot light, and my gold umbrella is missing the little cap on the end and looks like it could have been used. All issues were minor and not worth getting a replacement. The stands, adapters, and case is new.The construction isn't great, but this is an inexpensive kit and it works well. I tested it with a speed light and an umbrella and it functioned fine. I also tested a stand with an Alien Bees monolight and no problems there either. The stands seem relatively sturdy, but I would highly recommend using sand bags on them.

Flimsy umbrellas, likely to toppled over with weight, but totally worth it
The umbrellas are flimsy like 99 cent umbrellas. The stands are good and can extend real tall. Took great pictures but the whole thing toppled over in almost no wind. The umbrella bent and the diffuser on my flash broke off. Would really help to have a hook on the bottom on which to attach a heavy object. Everything fits in the included carrying case super snug. I had trouble taking everything out the first time. Brackets seem sturdy enough. Umbrellas hold on tight to the bracket. Overall a great purchase that has gotten me some sweet sweet images. Make sure to have a friend or assistant hold the umbrella and mount for you.

Does the job
The umbrellas are decent, and for a hobbyist like me, they can get the job done. The stands are very light, but that might be a good or a bad thing. They are made of metal tube. The flash brackets feel very sturdy and well-built, and the hot shoe mount is solid metal with a screw to tighten it. The hole for the umbrella on the mount is really stupid though; it's a hole with a bent piece of metal inside which presses the umbrella shaft to keep it from moving, so it's very hard to get the shaft in and it isn't very tight once it's in. There's an adjustable screw but it's completely ineffective. It's possible that I'm just doing it wrong. Overall, I'm satisfied with what I got.

Great for the money
pros:+Umbrellas are good+stands are good and very tall+Customer service is very responsive - They included the wrong umbrella and were very nice and quick about sending the right one.+You get 2 stands and 4 umbrellascons:-The swivel mount is weak and hard to get properly tightened in the most important place: where you attach your expensive speedlight. I had one fall off (luckily it was a cheap one). I'm going to buy some better mounts. The company said they would try to send me a better version but they never did.-The stands are very lightweight. Don't use them in wind. Indoors I've used them extended to 7' with no problem. This is a very nice beginner set. Better than I expected for the price.

great for a beginner studio
so far so good......i didn't want to get anything too fancy seeing that this would be my beginner setup. It is perfect for those just getting into studio flash and learning until you can afford that fancy-shmancy versions. Yes (as most people complained about) they do tend to be top heavy but that is why they make sandbag...for that very reason. They are not the expensive heavy duty but they serve the purpose of beginner flash set. I give it a 4 star.

Good for the money
This is exactly what I was expecting. Great for a beginners lighting setup. The umbrellas are not of the best quality, but they are not paper thin like some reviews have you think. As long as you are not careless with your equipment, they will hold up to normal use. The stands are nicely built. The mounts are nice too. I haven't had any other mounts, but I think they could be improved upon.Overall I'd recommend this setup to others. Can't beat the price.

Good Product
This is a great kit for the starting photographer! It's not as sturdy as one might want if you're planning on using it ALL THE TIME. But, for the price it cannot be beat! I would definitely grab this kit and play with it for 6 months - you will not regret it! Word to the wise - get some weights for the stands if you're going to be using them outside. Wind plus umbrellas equals falling! Great product for the price!
