Very clear and sharp optics
Nice compact set well worth the money we take them to ball games and hiking

Excellent compact binos
I wanted a good pair of compact binoculars with a wide field of view. I am very pleased with the Steiners. They have bright and clear optics. I chose the 8 power instead of the 10 power for a wider field of view. These little binos are very well built and provide very clear images. They are small enough to fit in my coat pocket and come with a nice case. I think for the money they are well worth it. I suspect there better out there but not at this price. I would highly recommend these.

Compact with lots of power.
Took these binoculars while hiking through the Alps for ten days. They fit nicely in the top zipper pocket of my pack and aren't too heavy to affect the overall pack weight. The zoom power is impressive for such small binoculars and I was able to see distant features quite well. These are certainly a luxury rather than a neccessary piece of gear for campers but a luxury that you'll actually get some enjoyment out of carrying. For hunters, birdwatchers or someone looking for compact binoculars for sports events, etc. these would work really well.

almost 5 stars
took it to Africa for a safari and it worked well, compact, light and rugged. the UV coating was perfect. compared to another set of bino's there were no glare or eye irritation from reflected light. the only problem is the eye cups are rather small so light enters from the side not giving you the crisp visual picture that you could have if you covered them. fix that and it'd easily be a 5 star product

Looked good, has zero durability. Big disappointment.
I purchased these as I wanted a compact set of binos for when I was hiking and traveling. I did a lot or research before I bought these. Many quality compact binos are very expensive, in the $500 plus range. I needed something that had good quality and durability but I couldn't afford a pair of Ziess or Swarovski's. I've had a pair of Steiner Military/Marine binos for many years, and I've put them through some very hard use during my active duty years in the Marine Corps. They were and are still a high quality piece of gear so, I was expecting the same quality from these Steiner's. These were a huge disappointment. Out of the box they looked good, solidly built with sharp optics. However I took them to the beach a few days ago and was caught in the rain. When I got home I dried them off and found that one side had water drops inside and the other was fogged out? (See the pictures) This was from a little fresh water rain? My Iphone would have done better. They were never submerged fully in water and only were rained on, no salt water? They also suffered no impact of any kind. Very sorry performance for almost $150. I have returned them and I'm hoping to get my money back, a little worried as I don't have the (shoestring like) strap or the original box? Sometimes returns can be weird about that stuff. We'll see I guess, but in any case these are junk.

The Steiner Champion 8x22 is far superior for the following reasons
I bought this and a Steiner 8x22 champ for comparison. The Champ is far superior for the following reasons:BrightnessI assumed that at this price level, both would have identical optics but the Safari ultra sharp when compared side by side with the Champ, by multiple people, was definitely darker in all conditions. The Steiner Champ blew away this binocular.FocusThe Champ 8x22 is easy to focus and has a really sharp view. The Safari Ultra Sharp almost appears to have different glass for each eye. The left lens was fairly sharp but the right was not, which left us to believe there was a manufacturing problem or a QC issue. The diopter adjustment for the left eye was also very imprecise on the Safari and had to be constantly readjusted. On the Champ, this was not a problem.Pupilary DistanceOn the Safari, the hinge was so loose, the binoculars had to be held with both hands firmly to see anything because if you removed a hand, the binoculars folded up like a cheap suit. With the Champ, once the binoculars was adjusted, it stayed adjusted.PRICEI know these are low end binos but the Champ, especially for 60 something bucks less, won this duel outright. I am returning the Safari and going back to Leupold for any future binoculars.By the way, these two Steiners were not made in Germany but most likely China. I know the Leupolds are too, except for their high end Gold Ring glass but the Leupolds are made better and have better lenses and coatings.

Great lightweight binoculars
These bins are for my 97 year old father's whose arms are weak. He loves them. They are light and they let in good light si he can see well with them. He has them focused for his eyes and is very proud of his ability to bird again at his advanced age.

Really good small, portable binocs
I have several other sets of binoculars, including Nikon Monarchs, and for a small portable set, these are pretty great. Easily as clear and sharp as the Monarchs. The one drawback is that the eyepieces don't rotate out to adjust for wearing/not wearing eyeglasses, so the fit around your eyes isn't 100% perfect. But they are very light, fold up to a very manageable size, and are of high optical quality.
