Excellent unit for playing any dvd.
This unit met all expectations; needed a multi region player as some dvd's are only available in region 2 format. For that reason, I'm extremely satisfied with this unit. Easy to use and very compact.

This is not your father's SONY. more like a big pile of
base unit is actually nice in that it is half the width of a normal sized component like my other Sony blue ray player that was also a gift.I don't think I will ever buy a Sony DVD player myself after the infuriating defects I've experienced with both this model and the other one I had.Base unit is worthless without a working remote as there is only eject, stop, play and power buttons. The remote controls everything else. The remote is the massive fail with this modelIt has a sadistic mind of its own. How it messes with your sanity is that sometimes it will work perfectly fine and then for no reason out of the blue the only two buttons that work are power on/off and play. Not pause, not ff/rw not stop. Just power off and play. So you think erroneously that the batteries must be getting low... But they were brand new fresh batteries you just put in. Besides, how could this be if two buttons still work without question? So you take them out and switch sides. Maybe it'll work now... But chances are it won't. The mystery of why it does this and why it stops malfunctioning is a mystery... A pull my 1911 out and pull an ELVIS on this worthless pos electronic device kind of mystery. Also, it has very limited features. Like one feature that was sometimes nice was zoom in and out with the other player. This is a no frills bluray. Or a tire chuck for your car when u are changing a flat. Or an impromptu skeet substitute target. You get the picture. Or maybe not.

Unit works, but it does not play Blu-Ray disks that are from regions outside the USA.
I believe the description to be misleading; the unit does not play Blu-Ray disks from outside the USA. I spoke with customer support, and they sent me a new player, which also does not play Blu- Ray disks from outside the USA. For the curious: yes, the Blu-Ray disks do play fine in other players.(they are Region B (2) from Europe)

Works as advertised and very nice for the price, but not perfect
I wanted three things in a blu ray player for the bedroom:-a low price-all the streaming apps I want-the ability to play all region discsThis Sony qualifies across the board. However, I've docked it one star each for two different issues:1) Switching regions requires a manual process involving the remote buttons when you turn the player on. I've not been able to duplicate the process using a Harmony as it involves holding buttons on the remote down while turning the player on. Apparently this is the case with any all-region player and not just this Sony. Still, it's an inconvenience and I feel should be noted as such.2) The UI to access and switch among the streaming services is primitive. Considering what Sony offers on the PS3 and 4, this UI is kind of embarrassing and clunky. It's simple enough, but it doesn't exactly yell cutting edge. All in all, it does the job, but I wouldn't select this unit for my primary viewing area.

... plus MS Movie Maker Videos this one works just fine for me
Since it plays all my DVDs including the ones from Europe plus MS Movie Maker Videos this one works just fine for me. No problem at all.I like it - a lot. Moreover it's set to work with 220 Volt, i .e. I can take it to Europe, use a power adapter plug and voila it works there too.

Black Market Junk - NOT Sony Authorized!!! BEWARE!!
Beware, this unit (BDP-S1100) is a low end blu ray which has been altered by "someone". I had purchased this and a basic unit for a friend. My friend's basic S1100 unit came in yesterday, I paid $32 for hers (here on Amazon), My unit, which was this multi region free player which costs 6x the other unit's cost arrived today.. Upon attempting to set up my unit, I saw nothing indicating Sony Region Free.. except the poorly worded and spelled xerox page included in the box..The unit had 2 white stickers on the back panel, both covered the serial #.. I called Sony's customer support and was told that BDP-S1100 is just a Region A/Region 1 Blu Ray/DVD player and that Sony does not sell or produce region free players.. I promptly called Amazon customer service and explained the situation and the item will be returned tomorrow for a full refund and Amazon claims they will take steps and deal with the seller (Global Electronics).. I compared the two Blu Ray player boxes and they are identical.. except for a sticker obviously made on someone's home computer that says the unit is region free.. I'm not trying to be a kill-joy or anything, and I can understand that people want freedom to enjoy discs from around the world, but what's being advertised is bogus, not Sony authorized or supported and it's a rip-off, when the same until is $32 (also on Amazon)..

No Wi-fi
The description did not specifically inform the buyer that it had no Wi-Fi until I got it. It informed the buyer that it had internet connection so I assumed that it had Wi-Fi because I could not imagine an internet connection that required a cable to operate at this time and era. For that reason I could not set it up and returned it for upgrade to S3100 which has built in Wi-Fi
