Sound is GREAT!
For what this cost the sound is really nice!! I just bought the HW-E450 this week too for the TV in the living room, this one was for the bedroom. Now the E450 has an optical input, that means any source will play through it comes through the bar.The E350 does NOT have the optical input, this means if you do not have analog outputs on your tv or cable box then an HDMI is the only way this will hook up,and this will limit sound just from the tv only,no DVD,U tube etc.Another nice thing about the optical input is that the bar does power off and on with the tv,the HDMI hook up will do neither. It boggles the mind why out of Samsung's new line of sound bars they would make each model hook up a different way!!Hooking it HDMI also means you dont get a picture unless you turn the bar on.With a Samsung tv you would have more options with both models, but they do sound great for the price you pay.Would have been a 5 star review, had they made it with the optical input, maybe someone should tell Samsung to look at the back of a new tv,there are NO analog hookup's,but most all have an optical out and a HDMI.That one cord hookup sure would have been nice, wish they would have made them a little user friendly with any tv or source.!!

I Finally Got It!(I think) ..If At First You Don't Succeed..Try,Try
I spent two days on and off to get this thing going. The biggest derailment was first the Samsung own site tech-advice and unfortunately later some of the ,mostly useful, reviews here. I'll get to the sound improvements later.I have a Sony KDL-50r550a Smart TV( 3 standard HDMI ports ,1 ARC HDMI 4 total)....which really dislikes Samsung sound bars .My TV is connected to a Dishnet DVR Box and doing the HDMI connections as shown on the Samsung manual will never work ,at least as far as the Arc-Out feature goes.So I tried this:''''HDMI ARC(1) from Sony TV to Sound bar HDMI OUT'''' and , simply, ''''HDMI Out from Disnnet DVR Box to Sony TV HDMI port (3)'''' (or any other available slots). That's it!!!The other Samsung Sound bar 'HDMI IN' remains unused , empty, orphaned, unattended etc...With this setup you can adjust the sound bar volume with its own remote, the TV remote and the Dishnet remote. You can also turn OFF both the Sony TV and the sound bar with one click with either the Dish net or Sony TV remote. HOWEVER the reverse is not possible. You will turn the TV on as usual but you still need to turn the Sound bar remote POWER ON separately.I read somewhere this to be a Samsung design fault .Now to the Sound Bar sound:it is a HUGE improvement from the TV speakers,I can hear bass and 3D sound for the first time and you will see the Sound bar 'TV ARC' displayed in the front window .Also when playing Roku or movies stored on a USB stick (this TV has 2 USB slots as well )...the sound bar defaults to 'TV ARC' and the sound is just beautiful..I would have given 5 stars if the TURN-ON control had been the same as the TURN-OFF with just one remote.Maybe a software update will change that or maybe I have to experiment some more.PS for the ARC HDMI connection I used a Mediabridge 1.4 cable, about 8 bucks at Amazon it will say ETHERNET and ARC capable.''''IMPORTANT UPDATE''''Now I'm able to control the Sound Bar and the TV with just one remote ( I'm using the DishNet)I was able to turn both devices ON by going to Sony Settings,Bravia Sync,List Device,Enable and VOILA after half dozen attempts the Samsung Sound Bar finally surrendered to Sony's powerful signal.I actually had tried this earlier ,but I guess the chip wasn't learning.I updated my review to 5 star.

Very disappointed
At the very first use when I put the volume high the base is so noisy and has a buzzing sound. I had to put the volume down to avoid the buzzing base sound and even on the lower volume the sound is not as clear as I was expecting. It looks nice and the HDMI return feed works fine.I will try to return because I believe the buzzing base is not normal. My experience with Amazon is very positive so far and I believe they will understand my frustration with this sound bar.Not recommended if you are looking for a clear, deep and strong music.UPDATENever doubted Amazon! They approved to return for a full refund. Thanks Amazon!

Check Your TV input/output
Before purchasing this (or any sound bar) be sure to check the audio input/output options on your television. Don't assume this will automatically be compatible with your set. I installed one for a friend and found the only option with his TV was an analog audio out to the bar....and even then I had to buy a cable for it. The one and only cable included with the bar didn't match his TV's output. (And yes...I know cables- I'm a sound tech)I didn't play with it enough to review the sound...but will update this in near future. It does have preset equalizer settings that might come in handy...and the sub-woofer has six settings.======================First one was defective - 2 of the 4 front speakers were bad.Second one also defective - exact same problem - same bad speakers. Therefore, my advice is to stay away from this product.

not a great clear sound, muddy middle tones.
muddy middle tones and overall unimpressed with output. It's a nice small size but gives out a lot of fuzzy tones.returned and bought Samsung HW-F355 2.1-Channel 120-Watt Soundbar (Black) instead, which has a muchbetter sound quality since the speakers and woofer are separate. no comparison.

Sounds great
Let's see--I bought a soundbar, blu ray player & tv--all Samsung, and all made in 2012. I got confused setting this up, but if I had followed the directions I could have set this up more easily and saved myself some worry. There was the issue of compatibility--my tv has 2 hdmi inputs but no outputs. I knew there could be some connectivity problems having read the reviews. I did use the hdmi cable connection and the soundbar works great for playing dvds. blu rays discs and playing cd's. It does not work for just the tv. I am assuming that if I had used the regular red & white audio cables that the sound bar would work for the tv also. I like the size of this soundbar (32") and did not want a larger one. The sound on this is very nice and is so much better than the regular sound on the tv. I just wish that Samsung would make all of their connection options more uniform from device to device.
