Q: would this be a good mic to use for a trumpet?

It's a very sensitive condenser mic, even for my acoustic guitar, so probably not the best for a trumpet. You'd have to be really far away from it so as not to blow up your sound. And then you'd probably loose all your tone in the process. If I were you, I'd research horn mics through Sweetwater or Muscians Friend, and then see who has the best price. Good luck.

Q: can you use an xlr to usb cable?

The Audio-Technica 2021 is an active condenser mic. Being active, it requires 48 volts DC to make it work. The voltage is supplied to the microphone through the XLR microphone cable. Since the voltage is direct current (DC), it does not interfere with the sound that is transferred from the microphone to your USB equipped sound equipment. In my opinion, you will need a separate interface between the AT 2021 and the USB input. The USB input only supplies 5 volts DC, not enough for the microphone. The proper interface will both supply the proper voltage to the AT 2021, and transfer the sound from the microphone to your sound equipment.

Q: How dose it sound singing solo?

I have four (4) Audio Technica AT2021 condensor mics. I do not use them for vocals or horns. Typically I use them for drum kit overheads, conga overhead (if I need a quick solution), acoustic piano. Also, I use them as "general micing" in a few situations that don't require separate channels, for example I'll put two of these HIGH in front of a small group for general pickup. They are could be used for vocal in a pinch I guess, but I don't recommend them for that. Inexpensive vocal mic might be a Shure SM58 or Sennheiser 835. - PM

Q: How will this work in a bathroom?

I find this mic to be rather brittle and I do not think it will sound good in a highly reflective room such as most bathrooms. I think it will work better in a closet or a room that has blankets or fabric on the walls. I think you want to minimize the reflections for this mic. I’m not pleased with this mic. I like the AKG P170 for about the same price better for acoustic guitar. I also like the Shure SM57 better, but it’s a dynamic mic.
