Had this switch fail twice in three years. First time in my 2 year old motorhome. Was having some pump difficulty in Anchorage AK so bought a new pump just in case, and yes it later died in Homer where there were no replacement parts -- so replaced the whole pump. About a year later the switch failed again in Newfoundland Canada in a really out of the way place with no hope of spare parts. Disassembled the pump switch assembly down to the internal Omron limit switch, drilled out the rivet in the Omron switch to find the internal contacts severely eaten away and other tiny parts heat damaged. With little choice I fixed the switch internals as best as I could and got the switch working, but no way would it be able to directly run the pump for long. So, installed a relay so that the pump switch ran only the 55mA relay coil and the relay contacts switched pump motor power. I am a electrical engineer and it is clear that the Omron switch inside the pump switch assembly is an unreliable choice for directly controlling the pump motor which is a difficult load to switch due to its high current and high inductance. Highly recommend you also use a relay to do the actual motor load switching after replacing the switch as I did. A good 30-40amp relay for the job is one typically used for switching aftermarket driving lights, they are readily available, inexpensive, and really tough since they are designed to run high power Tungsten lights. Then mount the relay in an easily accessible location, consider it a once-a-year maintenance item, and carry a spare.

This assembly fixed my problem of continual running of my pump. However, the accompanying instructions tells you to "Place the new check valve into the pump housing" but the check valve isn't included in the kit. It also says "Place the new spring over the stem..." but there is no new spring included. Then "Place the new retainer over the spring" and there is no new retainer. Fortunately for me, what WAS included fixed my problem, but if Pentair (who makes this assembly) includes instructions containing these components, they probably wear out and should be included with this kit. I consider myself lucky that my problem wasn't with one of the omitted replacement parts. You are buying what is in the photo - not what is in the instructions.

Easy replacement and now the pump works much better. No more intermittent operation or heating up.
