Even at the "best" setting the quality of the scans is very poor. To even get to the point to be able to try it out and see how it scanned it took me weeks of trying to get the installation disk to work (of which there was only one in my package and it says on the pamphlets that there should have been two) and finally having to download the scanner software from the internet rather than the disk and never getting the photoshop they are supposed to have included, and then by the time I had succeeded at trying it out and realizing the quality wasn't what I had wanted they said it had been too long to return it - although I was still within Amazon's returns window. Very annoyed that after all those problems they won't even let me return it.

This unit has been very good until recently, when I try to calibrate i.e., I get an error code, "Caution, something has been detected in the scanner". I have tried re-plugging = re-entering the CD software - The telephone number assigned to technical problems is 505-524-0384. try it - you are greeted by a prerecorded voice message - followed by a telephone disconnect originating at their end. Why does the customer buy a product in good faith and big business can't answer a telephone - which says to the customer - you and your time are worthless and mean nothing to me - but mine (time of big business ) must be maximized so that we are saving labor by using - not ours - but your precious time in this finite sojourn on earth. All big business follows the same rules. Most of our American system is broken. I'm glad to say that Amazon has a workable / acceptable / pleasant way of handling their calls.

Make sure you download the latest driver from [...] as it may not ship with the latest version for your operating system. This is the second version of this unit that I have owned. I bought the first a couple of years ago, but only started digitizing my 35mm slides and negatives this year. After 4,500 the unit developed a slight black fleck on the white screen inside the unit which I could not clean away. Really no complaint after so many very good images. I ordered the newer model from Amazon and when connected I noticed what looked like a smear on the white calibrated image it showed on my computer screen. Pacific Image's tech support said that was a flaw. I immediately returned the unit to Amazon and ordered a new one rather than wait for an exchange. I had a refund even before they received the unit back and the new unit arrived within a few days. No complaint about the great Amazon service. The new unit works fine. Pacific Images' tech support did caution me that this unit is not the best for Kodachome slides sometimes producing a slighly watery look. My very similar original unit produced over 1,000 good slide images and I have not tried the new unit with slides as yet. If produces good images from negatives. Do keep in mind that this is not a professional grade unit, but used properly does produce good images. Some of my negatives and slides go back 50 years so I am not always working with the best quality. Most images you may choose to adjust later. I use both Adobe Photoshop for detailed adjustments and sometimes just Microsoft's image viewer to make contrast adjustments. Washed out slides and negatives always need a little work. The unit allows three levels of scanning: Good, Better and Best from the settings tab. The Good setting produces images under 1 MB and the Best over 3MB. I have tended to use the middle setting, but the processing time seems to be pretty much the same regardless of the image size. Am I pleased with what I am getting for the price. YES. Only another 4,000 images to go! Update: 2000 negative and slides later. Scanner is working very well with Kodachrome slides. None of the possible issues noted by tech support are evident in my unit. Changing star rating to 5, but still make sure you check your unit when you get it. If there is any deficiency send it back and get another one.

A simple to use scanner that does a good job converting slides. The basic software does a good job of correcting image imperfections. Well worth the price.

This is more of what I wanted - Adobe software came with unit - cable fixed to unit - got up and running - picture quality, so so - will need time to see - this unit is discontinued so no support - the unit was not new based upon condition of box and how taped but in great condition - after a week - unit failed to work and respond to reinstallation attempts - just gave up on it and returned to tray another hopefully with more success - contacted to manufacturer and found this unit was a discontinued model and not support - also feel it was a used unit and someone may have had similar issues resulting in its availability - not giving up looking for a good low end unit

The online advertisement was misleading. I will be able to use this product, but not in the capacity I had intended. Not happy at all with the company I purchased it through.

This product is awesome!!! I bought it as a christmas present for my parents who have tons of old slides and film that they have been wanting to get converted over to digital before they start getting ruined. This product does a great job, and is super easy to set up and simple to use.

The scanner did a fine job but the software must have had a bug, it kept crashing, It was a nice size so I hope they figure out how to fix the software.

Does a very good job comes with a free older version of PhotoShop Elements. The ease of slide loading is a major plus.
