Mosby's Medical Dictionary 9th Edition

Has the right explanations of words , terminology that I need for my classes.

First of all, I'm a college student mostly going through anthropological and criminal studies, not medical. But sometimes a term is not on google, and isn't clearly described in the textbook or the teacher so I got this dictionary. I thought it would be as big as my legal term dictionary that I can bring with me to school. But no, it's a book! Really fancy. Also it was on sale so I got it for 20 dollars. This edition is from 2017.I knocked out a star because the book I received doesn't appear to be new. The corners are a bit smashed and white, and there is a scratch on the cover probably from a box cutter. Pages are not flawless either but there's no other marks. I guess this stock was on sale for a reason so I don't regret getting it for more than half the price off.

I'm a student in the Medical Coding program at my local college. Some of my class instructors have recommended that we find ourselves a good medical dictionary. After some research, and asking established coders what they prefer in a med. dictionary I settled on this Mosby's Medical Dictionary.Cursory Observation: The dictionary is bound with a hardcover and the pages are shiny, sleek, and nicely printed. I noted the heaviness of the book as well as the comprehensive definitions and pictorials. It is about 3.5" thick. Elsevier is the publisher of this dictionary as well as the publisher of some of my coding textbooks. I felt comfortable with using this dictionary because of this.Recommendation: Yes, I can recommend this dictionary to fellow Medical Coding Students. It's a beautiful, quality book for the price. It's comprehensive enough to get you through assignments that require more research into understanding what a condition is for the purpose of coding it.

Wonderful photos. So easy to read. Larger font than many other texts. Nice page paper. Easy to use and find things. Basically brand new for a “used book” price from this dealer. I am very happy. I will be using it for medical coding certification exam—where we can’t Google definitions.

A lot bigger than expected but looks quality. Arrived a little damaged at the corner but not enough that I'd waste time returning for a new one. Diagrams on the inside are really nice. I purchased for medical coding and health management degree and I think it'll really come in handy.

I am an M2 and I like this dictionary but I also bought the Mosby's pocket dictionary and it seems to have every word that this large one has and also missing the same words (see my CONS section), but really all you seem to be paying more for is images that are not always helpful unless you are studying anatomy (there are some path and procedure pictures too). However I would think that you would have a separate book for that like BRS anatomy or Greys.CONSIt does a decent job of defining things but sometimes it just describes features of a disease instead saying that these are the defining features or these are just features that are associated with the disease but then there is no clear definition. Another thing that also bugs me is that sometimes it missed common words such as choledocholithiasis. Yes there is choledochal and lithiasis listed separately in the dictionary and you can add the word to figure out the definition but you can also put the words bell and hop found separately in a regular dictionary and if you put them together that does not mean a bell that hops. So there are some important words missing that may be obvious but if it was so obvious I wouldn't have bought the dictionary in the first place.PROIt seems that a lot of second year med books don't define things so this is a good resource for that, but like I said just buy the pocket edition (which actually won't fit in your pocket) if you don't need the images.

I love studying from this dictionary. It has loads of photos for a better understanding. A must have for the clinician in your life.

Everything in it, very useful! Even have some 'pictures' in some pages, really great dictionary. I use it all the times now.

The book is beautiful and in excellent condition. the munber of pages is droolworthy to behold. Very comprehensive with beautiful pictures. I am very satisfied. Thank you.
