Mammoth Air Purifier Q3 Real Wood Desktop 7 Stage Purification with Adjustable Fan Speed, Cherry

I just received my Q3 today and it came in prestine condition. Thankfully, there were no rattling noises and is very quiet.It's too early to tell of it's efficacy. But I am optimistic because of the condition the unit arrived which differs in far contrast to some of the more negative reviews.Since I just recieved.this item, I will try to update my review in a month how effective my unit is.As for reports that people who are giving positive reviews are doing so based on receiving a free or marked down unit, I really try to take such reviews with a grain of salt. Though I find reviews generally helpful, I purchased this unit on my own without any solicitation from Mammoth and felt it only fair to give the use of the unit time to form my own opinion. That's why I gave 3 stars as being neutral.

As you can see from the pictures (and the purifier looks just like the pictures!), this unit is absolutely lovely. We have all wood furniture, and the purifier blends in beautifully. As to its functionality, it is extremely simple and easy to use. It is ready to use directly out of the box with no assembly required, which is nice. We plugged it in, and it began working right away. In truth, I could not (and still cannot) tell much difference in the air quality. However, my husband says that he can tell the difference. I have a poor sense of smell, but he says that the air smells a little like a battery, but it also smells "fresher" and "cleaner." I believe his phrase was, "Imagine if they made a battery scented laundry detergent... that's what it smells like." I have only had the unit for about a week, so I expect that with longer use (and perhaps when we stop running a humidifier at the same time, since my husband has been sick), the air quality will continue to improve. Honestly, I think this product is working and is worth the money. The only small complaint I have is that, at least in so small an apartment as we have, the unit is surprisingly loud. It quickly becomes background noise and you can turn the fan to a lower setting, which helps, but if you are listening, you can always hear it running.

It's loud. Very loud. Like my DB reader app on my phone marks the lowest level at "normal conversation," meaning at its lowest level, it's about the loudness of two people talking back and forth.I've only had it for a few hours and it works. The air is noticeably cleaner and fresher. But the noise will change the way you use it. If you turn it on while you are at work and turn it off when you get home, I think you will like it. If you wanted it on all the time, the noise will most likely bother you.It looks great, compact and stylish enough to vanish into your decor. But man is it loud.

It looks very nice, the wood finish matches my office desk and bookshelves. The knob feels and looks good, too.The reason I am giving only 3 stars is that it makes a high pitched buzzing/ringing noise, no matter what speed the airflow is on. I am not sure if this is the light or something else, but it can be quite grating over time!

The air quality at my work place is less than great (it is horrible), my office is in the city so it is not entirely the building's fault. I bought this device to improve air quality in my office. It worked... awesome.I do not have microbe swabs to compare before and after, but I do have a week of really clean air to appreciate.First, this device does a lot. Read the description, it does stuff I dis not even know could be done. How I can tell that stuff actually works is the absence of a black sooty residue on surfaces in the office now. (I know but I warned you the air quality was horrible). The device does not emit any type of smell either. I read about that on reviews of other electrical air quality devices and this device does not produce that effect.Second, the device does its job quietly. I had to check that it was actually on a few times. I am (thankfully) not at my office at night or in the dark so I do not know if the UV light in this device is noticeable.Third, I noticed I began to sneeze or cough when I am not in my office now. Before this device, it was almost all the time.So, my non-scientific assessment is that this device works. It does what it says it does and for the price (I caught it on sale) it proved to me that I should not have waited for a sale.

Upon unpackaging a rattling could be heard coming from within the Q3. There are fabric pull tabs attached to the filter at the base of the unit. I took care to ensure the plastic tabs holding the filter in were not obstructing the removal of the filter but, alas, the tabs were no match for the strength required to remove the filter from the housing and promptly tore away. Since I had to pry the filter out, I will take it as a good sign that any air flow coming from the unit is traversing through the filter. Once the filter was removed the plastic mounts holding the plasma wave generator were split in half due to being over-torqued. It appears as though whomever assembled the unit had no care of whether or not a good job was performed.I called the customer service line listed on the "NEED HELP?" card inserted in the box and was met with a voicemail. I went to the website and found the extension for the Support Service line. Dialed and spoke to an employee who told me it would be best if I contacted Amazon and just had a replacement sent out. It was fairly obvious that this happened often because the employee did not offer any form of apology for the shoddy workmanship. I have seen numerous good and bad reviews for this product and feel that this all comes down to if the first unit received worked or not. I REALLY like the look of this unit but after experiencing their "Customer Service" I am choosing not to support this company with a further purchase.
