This stuff is actually kind of thick, perhaps a bit thicker than I'd like, making it harder to work with. It has a pretty serious plastic coating surrounding the wire. On the other hand, if you want something that's not going to dig in, this may be exactly what you're looking for.

Q: what is the diameter of the wire

The coated wire is .062" diameter (about 1/16 inch). As best I can mike the wire itself, the diameter is .042". Thus the coating is approx. .010" thick. The wire is composed of 7 individual strands, each .012" diameter. I estimate twist in the wire at 1.5 turns per inch.

Q: Being that it is vinyl coated, does it unravel after you twist the ends? Or does it stay twisted nicely?

I've been using this vinyl coated wire music for several months now on various weights of framing for sur vinyl coated wire music for several months now on various weights of framing & i've had no problems with it raveling....is stays twisted nicely.

Q: How much weight does this "Size 5" wire support?

The label on the reel states 43 lbs. I cannot attest to this, because we have only used it to hang, at a guess, 25 lbs. this weight worked fine. The wire has a nice plastic coating, but is not as flexible as I had hoped
