The Most Affordable Audiophile Tower Speakers Available. Period.
We will keep this as to the point as possible. I've owned and/or tested a wide range of mid range to reasonably priced high end audio. I do not consider myself an audiophile but feel like I can judge a decent set of speakers from the rest. After auditioning these compared to a pair of discontinued Focal Chorus 826s, B&W 802D3s, B&W CM10s, DefTech BP9060s, Golden Ear Triton Ones, McIntosh XR100s, Infinity Beta 60s and in comparison to some truly amazing Beyerdynamic cans, I can tell you a few things:-These speakers have more range then just about any other tower speaker given the very reasonable price, you have to spend an order of magnitude more to really approach them (the B&W diamonds)-They are not for people who love piercing or very very bright highs. Although Polks sometimes get a reputation for being a little bright, I found the high range only slightly low for my taste, but pleasingly so. With increased volume they seemed to truly fill in and only become more clear.-If you love bass you will be very pleased with the clean bass output from the down-firing port. There is absolutely no port noise and the bass hits low. If you're an absolute bass head, you'll still want a dedicated sub (blasphemy I know).-On the contrary to many reviews from the interwebs, they are not power hungry. They were powered by a Marantz stereo amp, an older HK AVR145 and a Marantz receiver (SR7010) and all were able to achieve clear, deafening levels of pure, harmonious sound. My music tastes range from classic/southern rock, more modern progressive rock, house/electronic rock and soundtrack scores. The towers were able to faithfully reproduce all the subtleties that I appreciate from listening to the same tracks as my Beyerdynamics.Do not buy at their normal price, although I would still say they are completely worth it. You should wait until they Polk does a Friends and Family sale (50% off!!!!!). Most other retailers match the prices during the sale.

These speakers are a replacement for my 1995 Reference Standard 6.
I wanted to up grade from my old 1995 RS 6s. The price was within my budget and Polk is known for producing great sound.

Buy them -- you won't be sorry.
These are huge, and you'll want them to reach out into the room a ways to get the best sound, so you should not buy them if you plan to hire an interior decorator anytime soon. Luckily my wife will live with my audio addictions. They sound and look wonderful. Even when they're turned off, I find myself marveling at the cherry finish and the statement they make. I've had these a few months now and they excel on a variety of music. You won't notice them much with a simple DirecTV show but the few movies we've listened to, they come alive. If you're buying these for home theater, you owe it to yourself to add the matching 706c center channel. It is also immense but it is awesome for dialog. I had some good B&W speakers for years. This was a big upgrade and I'm very happy.

Wow. Had I known....
Had I known how true, accurate and musical these speakers are I would have bought them years ago! Amazing sound without coloration. You will need some wattage to drive them, as they are not super efficient. However, you will be rewarded with an amazing sound stage and accurate sound. My only complaint: the pictured cabinets say midnight mahogany (which should be a very dark maroonish red). What I got was pitch black cabinets. No other color in the hues. So, minorly upset over that but I'm not going to send these monsters back just because of that.

Sure why splurge on an expensive set of speakers? My first Blu-Ray that I listened to was a Madonna Concert. Unbelievable sound and the quality of the system awesome! Madonna sounded like she was present in the room or you could say I thought I was at the concert. Really enjoyed it. I watched a great movie about one of our hero's American Sniper! You can really feel the tension and the realism was undeniably a masterful experience. I heard sounds that I didn't experience with other speakers, Voices clear and music sweet! Make your own decision, I made mine and I am glad I did. You will need a good amp to power these remember what you put in is what you get out!

Not enough bang for the buck.
Allot of rave reviews but I was not that impressed.Perhaps its the receiver I'm using - 135 watts Onkyo TX RZ900.I have the matching Polk surrounds and and center andIf I had it to do over - I would not spend the 4-6K (on sale) for these 5 Polk speakers again. My old Polk TSX-550's were just as good if not better to my ear.Next time around - I will be looking elsewhere.

Great speakers
Great speakers, but surprisingly not overwhelmingly better than my 19 year old Polk rt2000 speakers they replaced. On classical music I can notice these are much better than the old ones, but with no other genres do I hear a big difference. Not as efficient as the old rt2000 either; I have to turn up the stereo a bit more to get the same volume. I have 130wpc which powers these just fine. Also, I was expecting some wood grain in the midnight mahogany but it's basically piano black, though a flat black not a shiny one. Why waste a gorgeous wood like mahogany if you're going to cover it up?

High quality recorded music sounds better then I would have imagined
First higher end speakers I have owned. For a large room these are true Audiophile grade speakers. High quality recorded music sounds better then I would have imagined. Poorly record music does not improve. Crisp vocals. Great mid range. Base that is perfect for me but I prefer base to be quieter then some younger people do. I have listened to a large variety of music on these speakers. From Classical to Jazz to Hendricks to The Kinks to Folk To Pop to ........ they sound great on good recordings and very mediocre on poor recordings. Amazing Grace by Judy Collins was moving. Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin was blah, Turn the Page by Bob Seger was incredible. All music was from an Iphone 256 kbps and a vintage Sansui receiver G9700.
