very informative
I found the book to be a great introduction to Gestalt theory. I think like with any methodology, it would be important to complement the book with an experiential training where you can put the books learnings into practice in a safe environment before trying it out on your clients.Personally, i had done a 2 day training session with the author and then decided to read the book, and i find this combination most helpful and the aoec training excellent.

Fertile Void is rich beyond measure
Gestalt explained! A clear and compelling read. I studied with the AoEC and completed a workshop offered on Gestalt Coaching. It was an excellent program run by Marjorie Shackleton and now this book. The content helps explain the principles of Gestalt and then explores with wonderful vignettes and exercises how you might go about being a Gestalt based coach. I loved it and am hungry to put into practice the many insightful suggestions that peppered this book. John takes you on a journey that is fathomable, easy to digest, one where you can get off take a break, come back on and continue. I would recommend this book to anyone seeking to understand Gestalt a bit more, ground it in your practice and to those who want the courage to experiment employing this methodology. Gestalt for me is beguilingly simple but inherently complex and now I have a resource that I can return to over and over again. Thanks John.

This is an excellent book, carefully planned and well executed
This is an excellent book, carefully planned and well executed. It gives a step by step guide to the Gestalt approach to coaching and though I trained in this coaching method some years ago I found the approach here very valuable. It gives a basic insight into the core concepts of Gestalt in a way that is very accessible and understandable with some excellent examples. Probably geared more towards the uninitiated than the experienced campaigner it is well worth having on your book shelf as a reference guide whatever your level of competence.

One of the most important coaching books to be published in recent years
In order to support my practice as an executive coach over the past six years I have read dozens of books on coaching. John's book one of the most helpful I have ever read and possibly the most important to date in my own professional development. John's writing is clear, straightforward and accessible while being written from the standpoint of deep personal knowledge of both Gestalt theory and coaching practice. The principles and ideas underlying Gestalt are clearly explained, as are the implications for practical coaching through each stage of the flow of continuous experience in raising awareness. This is more than just another coaching model.

Clarity
I've tried to get a handle on "What the hell is Gestalt?" for some time. This book answers that question and many more. It's written clearly, with good examples and useful suggestions. Buy it.
