Philips Norelco NT9130/40 NoseTrimmer 5100 (Packaging May Vary)

So, I had been using a rotary trimmer for years before this. I never liked it because every once in awhile, I would get one of those "am I dreaming" or "am I still alive" moments when it yanked a hair out instead of cutting it off. At that point, I could confirm "Check, I'm definitely not dreaming" and/or "Yup, I'm still alive." This Norelco product trims pain free, effortlessly, and much closer than I could have hoped for - so I could be dreaming. I only wish I had it years ago. I am going on more than 7 months of perfect operation (received ~ February 1st, 2013) on the original battery, and immediately after I bought it, my dad wanted one too. He is also going on over 7 months of perfect operation with the original battery. I use it to trim my eyebrows, hair around my ears, and of course, my nose hairs. It trims so well and so short that I don't need to use it as much as my old rotary trimmer. I wash it every time I use it (because it says to do it) with warm water while it's running, then while it's stopped, and then once more with it running again. This is probably overkill, but I like to be thorough. I see some complaints in the reviews which I am almost certain are related to being too lazy to wash it after using it. So, I'm thinking, this is something you put in an area where mucous membranes are and if mucous gets on something and is allowed to dry, it hardens. It can almost be glue like. So, the trimmer blades get covered in a glue like substance from your nose, you don't clean it, and the blades stop moving. Please tell me that you're not surprised, and please tell me you don't blame the product. What do you expect? Norelco tells you to wash it after you use it. There might be a reason why! Auto manufacturers tell you to change the oil in your car. What do you think is going to happen if you never do, or do it poorly? Bottom line, product works exceedingly well - and for some of the doubters or people who don't like it because they can't follow instructions, let me add this caveat: "It works extremely well when used as directed." I am sure there are a couple of issues every now and again. Six sigma (which I'm sure Norelco tries to apply as they are big enough to do so) is only so good when it comes to quality control, so a rare lemon is to be expected. But considering that there are several negative reviews out of only 119, I'm sure intelligence or ability to follow directions has come into play - at least to a certain extent. I'm no rocket scientist, but it doesn't take a genius to come to that conclusion. If the functionality ever changes within the next few years, I will update this review, but I have no reason to expect that it will. Additionally, if I can remember to do so, I will try to give an estimate of battery life after the time comes when I need to replace the original battery. It may not mean a whole lot as people use it differently and at different frequencies and for different durations, but at least it will give you a data point. December 2013 - It's still perfect.

This is a great product but I'm a little disappointed in the company. I'll explain-I have sensitive skin and shaving with a razor causes me to break out in acne so I have used this instead to trim my facial hair and I am pretty impressed with the job it does. It gives me a relatively close shave with few cuts or anything like that. I also trim my nose hair with no issue. Pubic hair is a different story but if you use the nose attachment it works pretty well without losing too much blood.That said, I have had this for 3 years and it works just as well as it did when I got it. However, one of the attachments is starting to rust and I don't feel comfortable using it anymore. I went on Philips' website to buy an attachment head, something that I figured would cost about $10. It was over $20, which is more than I paid for the entire kit, and more than the newest model costs on here. So while I think it's a great product I am not happy that I have to either spend about $25 for one part, or I can buy another kit for $15 and waste all that plastic/metal.Long story short:Pro- Works great, can't complain about functionCon- Replaceable parts cost more than entire kitSomething I'm working through- Whining about the environment

I have used this trimmer a few times since I have ordered it. As usual, I will try to update in a few months.First impressions of this trimmer are overwhelmingly positive. I have used trimmers ranging in price point from $19 to $40, rechargeable Li-Ion to battery and corded models. Most were all in one facial trimmers with lots of attachments. I was uneasy about getting a trimmer with such limited uses, but it had decent reviews.Pros:The angle of the trimmer head sets the bar for every other trimmer. It just feels right.The trimmer blade design is super efficient. A couple passes and you are done with zero pulling of hair. I do not have particularly wild nose/ear hair, but I did go a few weeks without a trim. You can hear it working, even though the design "looks" like one of those micro-touch (which I do not like at all).It is battery operated, which I like because I do not like dragging charger cords around when I travel.Easy to clean, there is even a graphic on the trimmer head reminding you to run water over it. There is an o-ring on the battery compartment, but I do not think I will be using in the shower.ConsIt did stop working the second time I used it. Meaning I twisted the unit to the on position and nothing happened. I took the trimmer head off to see if anything was stuck and put the head back on. It fired right up... no issues now.I have not had any other issues with this trimmer yet, but it preforms so well, if it did have issues I would order another one.I have read reviews (1-star) that complained about this nose trimmer not trimming arm hair very well. Worked fine for a couple of months, thens completely stopped working. No response at all. Changed batteries, clean contacts, etc. Nothing from the device. Piece of junk. Typical of the devices. Recommend just a good pair of scissors rather than these things which are constantly a waste of money.
