From Windows 8.1 to OS X Yosemite
I have played with the idea of purchasing a Mac for the last year and I finally bit the bullet (and am happy of it.) I've gone through multiple PC's since last year with my most recent one being a Surface Pro 3. While I do love the Surface Pro 3, I didn't use it as a tablet as nearly as much as I thought I would so I wanted to go back to a laptop, but this time it was a Macbook Air.The reason I didn't previously purchase a Mac was because I was worried about switching to a new operating system. My OS experience has been limited to Windows products. I didn't want to purchase a Mac and have to learn how to work it/not like this new OS layout.I've had the Macbook Air for less than a week and it's absolutely fantastic. This worry about switching to a new OS had no basis and Apple's OS X is incredibly intuitive. It's not at all difficult to learn and I got it down on the first night. It's a little bit different having a dashboard like interface, but certainly one I prefer. The 4 GBs of RAM is plenty for any computing task I need to do and the 128 GB HD is plenty big. If you need extra storage, you can always use the SD Card Slot (I currently use a 64GB SD Card for my movies so they don't take up space on my HD.)As for actual usability, I have had zero problems. Perhaps I would had a few years ago, but now anything that is available for PC is also available for Macs. I absolutely love being able to send iMessage/SMS from my computer and I didn't realize how convenient it would be until I could do it. The keyboard types incredibly nice and alongside being backlit, the keys are spaced out wonderfully (opposed to the Surface Pro 3 TypeCover I had.) The touchpad responds great and it has multiple different touch features (swiping and so forth.) The Macbook Air is incredibly light (hint the name) and it's already traveled with me to work. It has sufficient ports, the ThunderBolt/DisplayPort works great for an external monitor, and is an all around fantastic computer. If you're worried about switching to OS X from Windows 7/8 don't worry about it, it is an easy transition and you'll love your new OS.

The rMBP 15'' is already pretty light, coming in at 4
I recently downgraded from a rMBP 15'' to the MBA 13'', and I wish I had done it sooner. As a science major, I always had at least 10lbs worth of textbooks in my backpack at a time. The rMBP 15'' is already pretty light, coming in at 4.5lbs. The Macbook Air 13'' is 2.9lbs. I can honestly say that when you're carrying that many textbooks on a daily basis, 1.6lbs makes a huge difference. Couple that with the crazy good battery life on the MBA and you have a winner. On average, I got 3-5 hours worth of battery life on my rMBP (without tweaking the settings). I'm averaging at least 9 hours on the MBA. This is with basic usage: email, word processing, web surfing, and video streaming. I can't speak much from the gaming or high performance end as I haven't tested any of that yet. This laptop has been dedicated to school and work. I have a custom desktop for that type of usage. Two things I was worried about was the loss of screen real estate and resolution. Text does look more pixelated and HD images aren't as smooth on the MBA display. However, it's not as noticeable as I originally thought. I personally don't think it's enough to be a deal breaker. I've also gotten used to the smaller display size. It also doesn't feel cramped at all.I took off one star because of the lack of an HDMI or VGA port. Laptops of this size usually come with at least one of the two. If you want to hook this laptop up to an external monitor, you have to buy a thunderbolt adapter which can be an inconvenience - especially if you do presentations often.Overall, this is a great laptop for students or anyone with basic computing needs. It is a lot pricier compared to other options on the market, but that cost goes towards sturdiness and reliability. Macbooks tend to last much longer than other laptops.

Back to Mac!
I have had Apple and Windows computers and laptops. However, when my Toshiba didn't even last more than a year, my husband got me the Macbook Air. It didn't take long to get used to an Apple again. The only drawback is that I wish I could play a Sims game I recently got for my birthday but the graphics sadly cannot handle it. The computer comes with good basic programs for everyday use. The speakers are lacking but other than that, wonderful for writing, basic use, and graphics. I do graphic design, writing, and photography and it has served me well. 4.5 stars is more accurate. It's been over a year so at least it's more durable than the last laptop I had.

Great purchase
Bought this for my parents. Getting them used to a Mac from Windows has been a challenge, but well worth it for their needs. They are light computer users these days, they use it to surf the internet and email. Because of the flash storage HD, it boots up incredibly fast. There is plenty of computing power to load webpages and applications quickly in comparison to what they had before. The wireless printer was so easy to connect to. They enjoy the battery life, and portability of it. Since it is so lightweight, they can easily carry it around to wherever they want to use it. They are no longer tethered to the desk and are extremely happy with it.

"Used Acceptable" condition looks NEW!!
Purchases Aug 2018. (Used Acceptable condition, early 2014 MacBook Air). FANTASTIC! I was reluctant to purchase a "acceptable " condition laptop but inventory was currently out of "good condition" ones. The price was right so I bought it. It came well packed and with what I believe to be a NEW Apple charger. If it's not new it is in 100% new like condition, even had the blue tape on it. The lap top is in extremely good condition. It has a very small blemish on the bottom. ( little scratched area smaller then a dime) an it has a small nick on the back rear corner. I consider this absolutly notmal wear and will put more damage on this computer in the next week then it currently has. I'm beyond impressed. first time buying from Maverick Macs and I'm impressed enough to write my first Amazon review.

Had to send it back not worth it
I had the MacBook for not even a day used it for 1 hour plugged it in to charge came one from work later that night and the screen wouldn’t come on but the Apple logo was lit up so I tried the next morning and the screen would turn from black to a grey colour like it was going to turn on but never would and same thing the Apple logo was one. I thought this was going to be a great laptop by reading the reviews like I always wanted a MacBook Air but this wasn’t worth the time or money so I sent it back and later on when I have the money I will buy a brand new MacBook from the Apple store

Powerful Little Machine
I bought this for my daughter to help her with her university studies and boy did it prove to be a winner. My daughter hasgraduated with honours and now is working on her writing career as well as looking for an editor position. She loves thislittle computer and now almost eleven months later it still operates like the day she received it. Thank you Amazon!
