5 years old and still holding up well
I purchased this patio umbrella five years ago so I could have additional shade on my backyard deck. I already had two umbrellas so I only needed one. This umbrella is quite easy to assemble. Slip the canopy on, pull on the cords, and up it goes with no problem. There is no crank handle which is fine by me. The umbrella still looks great. The canopy is still in good shape although it does have some mold and mildew on the top which won’t wash out. I bought the cream color so it’s noticeable. But I think that’s just the nature of having an outdoor umbrella and living in a metropolitan area. I did not purchase the base for the umbrella but I did purchase an umbrella holder that you attached to the balusters of a deck and it looks great. The two other umbrellas I have had by a different manufacture have to be replaced. I came back here to order two more of this particular umbrella so all three will match. I figured while I was here I would take the time to write a review. The only thing different this time around is I will buy a spray from Home Depot to protect the top of the canopy and make it easier to wash. Speaking of washing, each year when I take the umbrellas down for the season I have thrown the canopy in the laundry and gentle and it comes out as clean as I can. I live near a major metropolitan airport so there is always some spots around the house from the jets flying over. Of course they land on top of the canopy as well and I think that’s what the black spots really are I do recommend this umbrella otherwise I would not have come back to purchase two more.

What a nice surprise this was
What a nice surprise this was. A big winner from a small box.I had ordered seperate 2 cantalever styles from Walmart, both defected within 3 days! One of those was a problem getting a refund. Still no response. Both cords snapped, this style has a definite Achilles heel. But this tropishade umbrella is made with solid woods, a plus in the wind..seems to flex with the wind. And the cord is one you can easily re-thread in time, with minimal cost. I also recommend the brass base that it recommends. This does not have crank..it is superior, less to go wrong. It is quality and easy to assemble.Older style is best.

Great for the price
I live in Arizona, and I ended up buying this twice. It was nice quality, and I purchased it for a really good price. It held well in the Arizona sun, and I would recommend.

Not bad for the price - but not perfect.
I was looking for a bright red umbrella that would not fade or break. Has a modern architectural shape. It looked great initially and held up for a while but has since - a few months out -- faded some, not bright red anymore but its not pink like most reds umbrellas become. It has not held up that well as one of the inner pieces broke a few weeks out and its a little lopsided now - and I don't think its been submitted to any major winds or abuse that would cause that. But for the price, it works. I am not spending $200+ on a sunbrella fabric umbrella. I'll probably keep it another few months and then replace it. May even buy the same one.

Nice
I would rather have had a canvas umbrella, it's sturdier, less prone to ripping and offers deeper shade, but this one was in the price range I was looking to spend. I'm pleased with it. It was easy to put together and the white shade goes with everything. My only issue is when it's opened all the way it seems very tight where the pole meets the corners and I worry that it will rip. I'm hoping it will stretch a bit and not rip but only time will tell. Overall it's a great looking umbrella for the money.

Great so far
When we moved to California, nobody warned us about the Santa Ana winds which destroyed my last umbrella (my fault for not closing it one night). I wanted a cheap but decent replacement, so I ordered this one and so far, so good (it's only been a couple of months since we bought it). It's pretty sturdy (both the pole and the umbrella fabric) and has a simple design - perfect for covering our small patio table. It's pretty large and I like the color, which is light, but does a good job of keeping out the sun. As long as I remember to close it before those windy nights, it seems like it should last for awhile.

Really great quality shade
Really great quality shade. Solid wood structure, well balanced with brass hardware. After 90 days of harsh North Carolina summer, this shade still looks good. Color retention is excellent with the tan version. No wood blistering or flaking finish. This shade has been fully exposed to the elements since day one and provides great relief from hot afternoon summer heat. Not the cheapest, but definitely the best value.

Tearing: Cheap Fabric
This umbrella is not even 6 months old and has not lasted. The fabric tears instantly and is paper thin with one slight touch. The fabric has torn at the base of each spot where it has holds to attach it to the wood base. Look elsewhere!
