Outstanding Treasurehouse of Information
For the layperson that I am, this reference book has quickly become indispensable for digging deep into Judeo-Christian theology. It thoroughly explores the semantic fields of original-language Greek words and concepts used in the New Testament, as well as their etymological roots in Classical Greek and Old Testament translation from Hebrew to Greek in the Septuagint. One need only have access to either the Goodrick-Kohlenberger or Strong's numbering system of vocabulary words in English (there are cross-reference indices to/from each in the back) to find the word(s) and concept(s) discussed in the lexicon, itself. And, I do mean "discussed." These are not simple dictionary definitions, but thorough essays that go into considerable depth and detail in exploring semantic roots, branches, and off-shoots. There is also a useful Subject Index by general topic, but it is not by vocabulary words per se, nor is it exhaustive.I encourage you to read the editorial reviews here, as well as those by professionals in the various fields of religious studies, as I did before making the purchase, but for the layperson that I am, this outstanding reference book has become a natural cornerstone resource in my library of theological studies. I recommend it highly and without reservation.

Greatly Improved - Good condensation and clear text
Greatly Improved - Good condensation and clear text! Also, instead of being organized by Subject Order like Vine's, it is now ordered by GK number coding and Original Greek word order. Though the GK number coding is actually inferior to Strong's because it is least used - it is still close enough to the Strong's that it will help you locate your word. (This limitation is recognized in that it has conversion charts for the GK to Strong's - if you don't mind thumbing through 17 pages of them in the back of the book at page 705!) Also, for those who still want a Subject Index, it can be found on page 627. Critique: Should have the Alphabetical Index in the front and this all should have used the Strong's numbering system instead of the GK! I've scanned the Alphabetical Index and put a copy in the front of the book - and will add the Strong's numbers to it if I ever get the time!) [email protected]

Practical Lexical Resource
Overall, this is a very fine, helpful lexical/word study tool. Admitedly, there is no theological/lexical resource that matches Kittel's unabridged, multi-volume set, for degree of detail (having used it extensively while at Bible college); however, that set is quite expensive and takes up a lot bookshelf space. What this one-volume work does pretty well is summarize the most pertinent findings of the most significant Greek words in the New Testament. To its credit, it is concise and theologically conservative. It represents solid scholarship and is a worthy resource. On the negative side, the print size is quite small (understandable given the amount of data to include in one volume), and some of the conclusions regarding any given word's usages sound more like biased interpretation than raw, objective observations. Overall, though, it is a practical, helpful word study aid, and the prevailing price on Amazon was phenomenal. Recommended for busy pastors, Bible teachers and believers in general wishing to better appreciate the meaning of the New Testament.

Outstanding value
Of all of the bible study books I have, this inexpensive reference is far and away the best value. I like it better than my Little Kittle Theological Dictionary of the New Testament , and it is about half the price. It works best with the Mounce Interlinear The Zondervan Greek and English Interlinear New Testament (NASB/NIV) , which also uses GK rather than Strong numbering. These two books are the best money you could spend for original language word study. I find them exciting. For those who would prefer to start with English rather than Greek, the Mounce dictionary Mounce's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words , is well written, compact and very useful. But it cannot equal Verbrugge's Greek based dictionary for insight and enlightenment. Choose the Greek based reference if you are at all up to it. It is not all that difficult, and well worth the extra effort.

Great reference
This book is great. It contains definitions for every Greek word in the New Testament. It also contains a lot of other information, like the word's use in Greek culture, its use in the Greek Old Testament, and most importantly, all the ways it is used in the New Testament. This is a great book for a Sunday School teacher or any studious layperson. You don't need to know Greek to use it, but you do need an exhaustive concordance or an English to Greek bible so you can determine what word to look up.

The book we used the most often in my Greek ...
The book we used the most often in my Greek NT class. Very helpful with in-depth explanations. Heavily referenced.

Was difficult at first to figure out how to use ...
Was difficult at first to figure out how to use, but found out that the scriptures in the back (Scripture Index) have page numbers where you can find what page that passage is used on. The same goes for the Subject Index. It does not cover every word in the Greek language. It only covers words that have Theological significance.

in depth study.
This Dictionary is an excellent in depth study of the Greek words, going a lot deeper than other Bible dictionaries giving more of the theology and background for the words studied.A slight drawback is that you cannot go straight to the English word being studied but you need to know its number from the Goddrick-Kohlenberger numbering system found in the NIV Exhaustive Concordance. If you have a Strongs Exhaustive Concordance then the equivalent Strongs/GK numbers can be found at the back of the Dictionary. Go to Strongs number for the word to be studied, find the equivalent GK number in the back of the Dictionary and then check out the in depth study in the Dictionary.Excellent book. Recommended.

A must-have exegetical resource
An excellent tool for doing in-depth word studies, especially if you're working primarily with the English text, rather than the Greek. This product is also available as part of Accordance Bible Software, so if you're an Accordance user, this is a faster and more direct way of looking up words. But sometimes I find that it's nice to have the hardcopy book in front of me.
