At $40, A Bargain
I want to say, at the outset, that I'm a Saucony guy. I've logged over 60,000 miles in their "too soft" shoes. In the past, I wouldn't consider New Balance. They were too thin and unforgiving for me. But I'm older now. I run less and walk more. Particularly, I walk and run on local trails a lot. The trails were destroying my Sauconys and my feet were taking a beating. So, I wanted to try some trail shoes. The price was right on these, so I took a gamble. When I first put these shoes on, I was sure I'd made a mistake. They felt stiff, there was, relatively, the heel was noticeably low , and I didn't feel secure in the heel cup (with my usual non-prescription orthotic in the shoe). I persisted, however, removing the orthotic and walked the dog in the new shoes. By the end of a mile's walk, I could tell that the footbed was breaking in, and the shoe was more comfortable. A longer walk and I could install the orthotic. The big test, of course, was running on a rocky/gravelly trail that I frequent. They worked great. Where the Sauconys left my feet sore from the rocks poking up, the NB's distributed the shock of sharp stones over a greater area and I was comfortable. After less than 10 miles of combined walking and running, I can anoint these shoes as "broken in." I still won't use them on pavement. I tried a bit of running on the street and there was too much pounding on my surgically replaced knee. In general, the road isn't particularly kind to my knee, but these NB's are a winner for trails. They're a bargain.

Great shoes but replace the sole
For the price this is a great pair of shoes! I've been wearing loafers from Sketchers for years but recently I started running and need something with better cushion for my heels at work during the day. I love the shoes as they are light, gives good traction and looks appropriate for work day. Though, if you buy this and wear it as it you'll be quite disappointed - cushion is barely there! The sole is very thin and flimsy. When the item first arrived, I was quite disappointed! I can almost felt the hard surface I was walking on. The next day I shopped by at Wal-Mart and bought an $8 gel sole insert and Bam! It became a lovely and comfortable pair of shoes to help cushion my heels on standing at work. Don't but this thinking you'll conquer the trail because it murder your feet! But for me replacing the sole made a world of difference! I love it so much I even bought a second pair.

Just a plain Cheap shoe.
You get what you pay for.Pros: They are comfortable (like most New balances)They are CHEAP (paid >$60)Cons: No traction, they are okay on dry ground/floors but if there is any water BEWARE! Even old concrete sidewalks felt slick with a little rain.Soft soles, which are great for that "walking on clouds" feeling but not good when stepping on a tree branch or a jagged rock sticking out of the ground. Basically it's almost as if you're running barefoot. The shoe is made out of a very thin cloth, which is great for keeping you feet dry but if you step in a puddle, the shoe will get soaked and your foot will be drenched. Also there's no support for your foot since it's so thin.Overall, I walked/ran about 15-20 miles andI was disappointed by these shoes. But they were only about $50 so I can't complain much.

Defective shoe; No response from New Balance Customer Service!
I have been a loyal NB customer since the 1970s. Shoes were once well made, great fitting, etc. I have purchased running shoes, cross-trainers, and the Dunham dress shoes for work. Purchased this pair in mid-March 2019. Fast forward to mid-June 2019, the top front of the left shoe store. It wasn't caught on anything, it looked like defective material. Unfortunately, this happened past the Amazon return date. Reached out to NB on several occasions -- no reply! I can understand a defective product, but not a lack of customer service. I'd expect that from other companies, but not NB. Perhaps they have adopted the Nike business model. Very disappointing in that a once fine company is giving a longtime customer the middle finger salute!

Not comparable to v3
I'm disappointed. I absolutely loved the 510v3 I bought early this year. I run 4 miles per day and they needed to be replaced recently for wear. They were incredible shoes for my 58 year old feet, ankle, knees and back. I looked to buy the same pair and couldn't find them here. Only offered in women's. So, I decided to go with the 510v4. Best described as running on foam covered planks of wood. Zero love for these for running. I suppose they'll do for casual wear with jeans. First NB pair of shoes I've disliked ever.

Good shoe
Very comfortable and lightweight for a trail running shoe. Plenty of room in the toe box and seems to have slightly more room in the heel area than most shoes. Rubber toe protector is nice to help keep dew off and protect from debris. Good traction. Arch support is minimal, but I wear custom inserts so it wasn't an issue for me. The tongue is not stitched all the way up so those with an arch should not have an issue. The soles can be easily removed and replaced, if necessary. The shoe "squeaked" a bit at first but seems to be subsiding the more I wear them. I haven't water tested them but with a mesh top, I don't believe these will have any water resistance. Overall, I would recommend these.

You get what you pay for. Buy orthotics!
Decently-built shoes that don't wear out too quickly, but are fairly uncomfortable after a moderate amount of walking/standing. I'd probably have rated lower if the price wasn't so much lower than other products. The biggest selling point here is that with orthotics (nothing fancy, even $5 gel ones from Walmart will do), the comfort level is considerably higher, AND you didn't drop $90 on a pair of shoes. If you're willing to make to purchases for one need, your bank account will come out on top.
