Great read
A sci fi classic full of visionary ideas, including many that have manifested already. This book should be required reading for anyone who wants to understand how the world we currently find ourselves in, came to be.

A prescient vision of our contemporary online world
The seminal novella in this anthology predates (1981) public access to the Internet, the introduction of the IBM-PC (1981), my first "portable" computer (a ModComp Zorba, c.1983), the Apple Macintosh (1984), and the Morris Internet Worm (1988) {finding links is left to the interested reader}. The many contributions preceding the titular novella provide a valuable context for the novella and an interesting insight into the evolution of our contemporary, online world. The novella itself is a fascinating prelude to the whole cyberpunk genre.FWIW, my retreat in Second Life includes an orb spider hanging from a tree in front of the entrance and a dragon swimming in the moat. As before, finding links is left to the interested reader.

Ahead of its time
This book was written in the 1980s and man this book is good. Only sad part is that I wish it wasn't so short! Great read, awesome plot.

A prescient view of the future from the past
Great collection of essays from the past, about an even older included story, that describe a perspective of possible futures; many seemingly having come to pass and others that appear to grow more possible with each new day.

Still fresh
READ THIS BOOK. It has NOT gone stale. It's more relevant than ever. It's STILL mind-blowing.

an interesting look(but fairly technical) at how people where seeing internet and its evolution in the middle of the 90s
The real interesting part of this book is less the actual SF novel (which is ok) but the essays that precede it and the closing words of Marvin Minsky - they allow a look into how and why the internet evolved how it did, and give a better idea of how it could have been.A word of caution: the essays are fairly technical (cryptography, software) - so if you are not a technical person certain parts will be hard to follow.
