I miss my snuggly pillow-top, but I don't miss my aches and pains
Well, I've been sleeping on this mattress for a month, and it definitely took a little getting used to. I did see the word "firm" in the description when I ordered it, but given how much our 12-year-old pillow-top mattress had caved in around our bodies, I figured something a little firmer couldn't hurt. Plus I was waking up with neck and shoulder pain, and I wanted to see if a firmer mattress (and a new pillow) would make a difference. The short answer is that it does, but I am sacrificing a little bit of that plush comfort I loved to sink into. This mattress is VERY firm. But it's not hard. It's a soft firmness, if that makes sense. It's super dense and immediately bounces back into shape once weight is lifted off of it. It is a couple of inches thinner than our old mattress, and today's sheets are made to accommodate those pillow-tops, so there is some extra room in them now. It also is excellent at reducing the effects of movement from your partner. I'm a light sleeper, so I used to wake up pretty much every time my husband got in or out of bed, but I rarely do now.Bottom line, this mattress is better for my body. I'm sleeping well, and I'm not waking up with aches and pains. But I do really miss that "ahhh" feeling I had each night snuggling into my soft pillow-top. Ah well, such are the burdens of growing older and making healthier choices.I'd also like to give a shout-out to the delivery company, who called a day ahead to let us know they were coming, called when then were en route, were professional and courteous, and helped my husband get it in the house.

Great if you like a FIRM mattress
When reading this review, please keep in mind that I LIKE and PREFER firm mattresses. I prefer to sleep on very firm surfaces. If you don't, this mattress will likely not be for you. Check the objective review from "Born in Kansas" for a review from someone who doesn't like mattresses this firm. They'll give you a differing viewpoint. So with that out of the way, first and foremost, upgrading to a King was a surprise. I knew Kings were bigger than Queens, but didn't realize by how much until everything was in place in the bedroom. It's HUGE! If you like your space when you sleep and are currently in a Queen, consider moving to a King ... if you have the room.As for this mattress, Sealy promises a firm mattress and they deliver. You can sit on the edge and there is almost no give. The support is fantastic. You could have the most bleary-eyed morning imaginable and putting on your shoes would still be a breeze.Lay down and you're not sinking into this at all. Surprisingly, your movements aren't felt by the other person in bed, either. Between the room this size offers and the way it dampens movements, it's a good choice for light sleepers. You don't even feel your partner slip out of bed to get a drink at night. A good test is to stack a bunch of books all over the bed. Even when the stacks get tall, they will not topple! The firmness will be a sticking point for some people. As mentioned, it's my preference. Same with pillows. This is very supportive, very little "softness" and very little sinking into it. It's good for my back. I've been sleeping on this for about two weeks now and feel great. If that's what you prefer, too, this is a solid choice. If you like a softer mattress, however, look elsewhere. You won't be comfortable on this!

Well made, HARD, not firm, mattress
This is a well made mattress. The first thing i like about it is that it isnt 18" deep and impossible to find sheets for. After spending thousands of dollars on various high end mattress of all construction types, we have figured out that our bad backs like firm innerspring mattresses with high density foam top layer.Because so many mattresses that incorproate a foam layer built into the mattress end up sagging or having permanent dips on high pressure points, it isn't economically (or environmentally...filling landfills with mattresses that are spent every couple of years is pretty awful) viable to keep buying these types. We have found that even high end foam based mattresses dont hold up.Unfortunately, there is firm and there is brick hard. This mattress falls into sleeping on plywood level of hard. No give whatsoever. Because of that, we have to now spend a couple of hundred more to buy a much thicker, higher density foam topper than we would normally have to buy for a firm mattress. This mattress was already overpriced for what you get.One star off for overpricedOne star off for having no padding to speak of.

Way Too Firm For Comfort
Considering the fact that I did not like one thing about sleeping on this mattress, there is not much I can say to enlighten further on this model, other than it does have very firm sidewalls which will not deflect downward as you crawl out of bed, and it does not transmit your sleeping partner's movements when they toss and turn. It is very firm and really uncomfortable. I did receive this from Amazon at no charge in return for an unbiased review. Thus, all that I can say, is that if you are looking for a really firm mattress, this might be satisfactory to you. But if you are used to the soft comfort of a memory foam mattress or a pillow top mattress, then you will not like this one. I have had memory foam mattresses in the past which had plenty of support such as this one claims to have, but the firmer memory mattresses are still cushy enough on top to make them comfortable to sleep on. Unfortunately, this one is not staying in our bedroom. It will move to a guest bedroom, where we will add a memory foam topper to make it tolerable.
