Digitally remastered and expanded edition of Raydio's self titled 1978 album including six bonus tracks. Although recorded in L.A., Raydio is full of Detroit musicians and has a very Detroit-minded sound. Raydio is essentially a funk/soul album, but with pop and rock elementsand Parker certainly brings a poppy outlook to Jack and Jill, the single that put Raydio on the map. A clever song that uses nursery rhyme imagery to describe a man who feels neglected in a relationship and has an affair, Jack and Jill climbed to #5 on Billboards R&B single chart in the United States and #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. Jack and Jill also fared well internationally, reaching #11 in the UK, #4 in Australia and New Zealand and #5 in Canada. Raydio, which made it to #8 on Billboards R&B albums chart, was certified gold in the U.S. by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales exceeding 500,000 copies. Turn on the Raydio!
Since this album was released either in late 1977 or early '78,it was not available on the compact disc because it was not yet invented. You would have bought the album on LP,cassette or 8-track(the latter format has long been extinct). In fact,at least in the United States, this album was never re-issued on CD. It should have been since this is a Michigan band. Frontman Ray Erskine Parker Jr.,a Detroit native himself, wrote at least most of the tracks. The only Top 20 hit is JACK & JILL. Although inspired by the childrens' nursery rhyme, the song contains none of its lyrics, all Parker's own. Raydio's Arista Records labelmates include Barry Manilow,Dionne Warwick and The Kinks(at least during 1977-78). Raydio recorded and released three more albums following this one,one per year from 1979 to '81. Their sophomore release ROCK ON,with the Top 20 YOU CAN'T CHANGE THAT,was never re-issued on CD in the US. The '80 release TWO PLACES AT THE SAME TIME and 81's A WOMAN NEEDS LOVE were possibly re-issued in the US(I wrote reviews for these albums). After the release of AWNL,Raydio disbanded and Parker continued his career as a solo artist, having a handful of Top 20 hits between 1982 and '85. Then, his musical stamina weakened,at least in the aspect of the pop/rock/R&B charts. Anyway, this awesome album should have already been re-released on CD in the US.

For those who would like ALL of Ray Parker, Jr's music in CD format.....
Hello. By now you may already know that all of Raydio and Ray Parker's original albums are now released on CD as imports from the UK, Argentina, Japan and Britian. You can obtain them through Ebay as there are several stores that are selling them. OBI listings (a favorite collectors label attached to the CD in a foreign language) are more expensive, however, you can still get them at a reasonable price-without this coveted label. If you are a longtime, huge fan such as myself, still keep up with this maestro as I do, are an all around lover of his past and present creations, and lastly can afford them, the price may not matter. Bottom line, they are available and reasonable. I have ALL of his original albums now on CD format: From the first 'red' Raydio album through the last one called I'm Free - most recent solo release in 2006. Also, there are several compilations of his on CD format as well. The compliations can be found here in the U.S.Personally, I think it is a shame that the U.S. doesn't value his recordings enough to format them onto CDs to be available right here in this country where he made his fortune and brought huge, musical entertainment to the masses as well as help increase the financial wealth and success of the labels he was signed with. The U.S. seemed to love him and marketed him accordingly, during his heyday and we are advanced in technology, so I don't know what the slack is and it never made any sense. To me, that speaks volumes!!

PLEASE RE-RELEASE THIS ON CD!
This is one of my favorites! Unfortunately, I only have it on a cassette I taped from someone's lp back in the '70's. The songs always crack me up because they're so conceited. For example "Girl, I got something good for you guess what it is 'what?" ME!"or"You Need This to Satisfy That". There's not one filler song. Even the instrumental is good. I've wanted to find this on a CD for ages. Yes, "Jack & Jill" is on it, but there are other good songs like "Let's Go All The Way" and "Is This A Love Thing". The label is making a big mistake keeping this under wraps...

Classic Late 70's Soul
From the opening cut, "Is This A Love Thing" (You care if I'm the one, all you wanna do is have some fun.." to the closing instrumental "Get Down", this is a fun album with great songwriting, singing and musicianship. This is Raydio's debut and Ray Parker Jr. makes a great transition from Detroit sessionman to Black popstar.

If you like Ray Parker and Raydio, then you surely have Ray's last album released in 2007! This is Ray doing all new material but still being "Ray". The title is "I'm Free" and it got plenty of play on the smooth Jazz stations. A more than a few instrumentals and of course Ray singing as only he can!
