My Little Pony - The Runaway Rainbow [DVD]

Fun for a limited audience
This DVD contains "Friends are Never Far Away" and "The Runaway Rainbow", the third and sixth releases in the direct-to-video "Generation 3" My Little Pony series.MLP G3 is set in a world where there is very little danger, and ponies almost always get along with one another; as such it will primarily appeal to very young children. Despite this, the writing is fairly good, with fun characters and a lot of clever dialog. The art is so bright and colorful it may overwhelm some adults, but its also well done."Friends are Never Far Away" is an average episode of the series; the primary challenge of the story is overcoming shyness to make friends."The Runaway Rainbow" is one of the better episodes, with a main character who must learn to be responsible despite being easily distracted. One disappointing flaw to this otherwise well-done episode is that the horn of the main character (a young unicorn) keeps changing size; apparently not all the animators knew her horn was not supposed to be the same size as that of the adult unicorns.I would recommend this DVD for very young children, and anyone who likes both bright colors and stories with little conflict.

Wish there were more like this
My toddler daughter loves her "ponies" and the movies are no exception. So far she only has this one and The Princess Promenade though as there weren't a lot of them made. I can't stand the newest My Little Pony cartoons, with the ponies having the huge eyes and also I don't feel they still cater to such a wide age range as the original ponies and the mid-2000 pony movies/cartoons did. My toddler certainly doesn't show an interest in the newest ones and my 8 year old nieces don't seem to care for them either. I really wish there had been more movies made in the mid-2000's as they seem to really capture the spirit of the ponies. I have yet to purchase one of the movies from the 80's so I don't know how she will like those, but I am willing to try. I bought this one used and it came in like new condition so I was very pleased with that. I just wish there were more of them to buy.

The first 80's cartoon remake, that was an improvement on the original!
I just got this DVD today, and I was really surprised! It was better than I expected! This is the first 80's cartoon remake, that I can say is better than the original.Alot of the other remakes didn't capture the magic of the 80's cartoons they were based on. My Little Pony, The Runaway Rainbow, not only captured the original spirit of My Little Pony, it improved upon it. The artwork is great, the voices are great, the characters are cuter. The music also is beautiful, it's something even adults can enjoy.I'm very happy to see that at least one of the 80's cartoon remakes, were done well.

Bought The Runaway Rainbow (New)
I bought this movie, as I am a My Little Pony collector since the 80's. I had this movie but when I fell out of love for My Little Pony I sold it to F.Y.E. I've rediscovered my love for My Little Pony for a while now and had to have this movie. The earlier My Little Pony movies aren't sold in stores anymore and can be quite expensive in some places because they are no longer in print. The movie came as described, factory sealed, brand new, etc.

Beautiful Childrens Movie
My daughters (5 and 2 years old) love this movie. In fact, they love all of these My Little Pony Movies made around the same time. I believe it includes this one, Princess Promenade, Minty Christmas and A Very Pony Place. They are visually very colorful and beautiful and the songs are happy and upbeat. I also like that there are not any scary characters. Reminds me of when I watched it in the 80s - just a wonderful movie!

The Runaway Rainbow
My daughter loves this movie. It is great for young girls & boys. My friends kids (boy -5 & girl -7) both loved it too. It is a cute story about a young princess that accidentally runs away and has to find her way home with the help of her new friends.

Not the best episode they made.
For some reason this show does not hold my granddaughter's attention the way the rest of the DVD's do. She will walk in and out of the room persuing other interests while it is on. Very unusual for her when any My Little Pony episode is on.

At Last A Magical Adventure!!!
At last!!! A G3 Pony cartoon like the G1 Series used to be: adventures, dreams & magic!!! A young unicorn is chosen for a great responsibility, & given a special magic tool to use for it, but fails to pay attention & misuses the tool, while forgetting her task. This threatens to cause her & all of the Pony World some nasty effects... If I say more it will spoil the story so I'll shut up on that. The quality is good, the show is a nice length, & the lesson about paying attention & getting your work done is well worth showing. More than a few G3 Pony DVDs are about parties & just fun, but this one has a real story that can be enjoyed for its own sake.

Thats unicorn fun
An enchanting tale about a young unicorn called Rarity who learns a lesson in responsibility, with catchy music, a beautiful story and to quote Rainbow Dash 'Its about Rainbows darlings Rainbows...'

My little pony in modern animation.
I bought this for a 'my little pony' mad 2 year old, she liked watching it purely because she likes ponies, however I did not like it. The modern animation is cheap looking and the storylines are shallow and pedantic. The ponies have no real personality. The modern pony cartoons/dvd's are made cheaply with no effort. What really, really annoyed me about this 'Runaway Rainbow' dvd is when you put it on you have to choose which language to play it in and 'Dutch' is the first language on the menu, so you have to mess about and scroll down to choose 'English' every time you want to play it.I have now bought from amazon the old skool 'my little pony' cartoons of the 1980's on dvd, they have much better animation, storylines and morals. They are much more healthy and educational for a young child to watch and enjoy.
