Purchased this for my 6 year old first grader on behalf of his grandpa as a gift. The points he and I love are the details of ocean currents, mountain ranges and physical geography, as well as the light up political map feature. As a parent, I like that when questions come up about countries or physical geography, he can navigate the globe pretty independently to find the answer (with a little adult prompting for general continent or area). My son is also a fan of studying space and as an imaginary play toy, a glowing earth is high up on his list of fun toys to use with created paper or Lego space shuttles. I like that he is learning through play, which is very first grade appropriate.My older daughter is in third grade and she enjoys using this globe as well to find answers and explore. Both kids have commented that it is similar to ones they have used in their classrooms.The 4 star rating is because the topography is rather smooth. I wish it were a little more raised for the tactile and visual perception of a child running their fingers over the globe. However, I understand that raising it more could cause more difficulty in reading the names. I also wish that ocean trenches were indicated (only ocean currents are indicated with arrows). My son has had several questions about continental plates and volcanoes, as well as the why behind ocean currents and seeing more ocean topography could help with that.

I spent a lot of time looking for an illuminated globe at a reasonable price and returned one. This globe is absolutely beautiful on or off, and adds magic to my sons' room at bedtime. He loves having a glowing earth beside him as he falls asleep.

Very nice globe don’t seem cheaply made. The plastic stand is a nice matching blue and makes a great night light.

a beautifully lighted globe for a nightlight or on a desk. has an electrical cord, not a battery which I prefer. excellent product!

I like the globe and it is beautiful but there is a bad electrical connection to the light inside. I can wiggle the cord and get it to light up briefly but it won’t stay lit.

Exactly what I wanted. Decorative and the light is just right as a before bedtime lamp.

2 yr old managed to break it for my 6 year old. That and light never worked. 6 year old asked for a new globe from Santa,... will not be buying this one.
