Ties 2 uprights together to make solid rack - rock solid. Had two 16ft sea kayaks strapped on to rack going on a 14hr drive at speeds up to 95mph and rack did not flinch. Added great piece of mind when rack loaded up. The side rails do block access to truck bed. This can be a positive or a negative. For me with a long road trip I liked the extra 'jail' for the cargo in truck bed. Large Yeti cooler was almost impossible to get out...

I like the product other than the part where I sold part of my soul to purchase it; PRICEY! Easy to install yourself. It does take some time for adjustments, but the built in measuring marks help. It's sturdy as can be. I use mine for many things like carrying my kayaks, wood, and ladders. It looks good on the truck too.

These are an awesome addition to the Yakima HD Outpost Towers. They are very sturdy. My only criticism is the price. I wish they were not so expensive.

i've got the overhaul hd system and wanted to add these sidebars. the distance between my uprights (inside where these actually mount) is 62 3/8", and these do NOT extend far enough to actually attach. i think 62" might be the VERY max distance they would actually span. so, i had to return these as i do not want to shorten the distance between my uprights. i've seen 50" and 60" for the minimum span for the long bed version, which i was able to find and order, so i'll see what it really is once i get those. at least with the longer version, i should be able to trim that if i absolutely have to, but we'll see.

Built very tough, I use it to support my Smittybilt tent for overlanding and carry maxtrax, jacks, annex, shower and with the hooks built in it can be rigged for almost anything. With the right adaptors I carry bikes, climbing gear, and my kayaks to all my offroad destinations and favorite places!!

Excellent addition to the Yakima HD rack system

DO NOT ORDER FROM Rack Attack. I ordered Yakima side bars so I could mount traction pads and they sent me HD bars. Called customer service. No help at all. Beach trip screwed up because had to find different place to carry recovery boards. Rack Attack cannot read an order and doesnt care what they send you. The pic is what they sent and the order was for side bars! Pretty clear that the HD bars are mot side bars.
