Osprey Rook 50L Men's Backpacking Backpack, Mallard Green

Purchased for my 8th grader scout who was going backpacking for the first time. It forced him to carefully choose what to pack since its slim and close to the back. But still plenty of room IMO, especially just for weekend trips. He’s taken it out twice and it still looks brand new. It’s great quality. Very pleased with our purchase, and will consider this brand for other future backpacking or hiking purchases.

When I saw this go on sale I had to snag it, tons of pockets and plenty of space tor multi-day trips. This is a older model but it still stands the tests of time.

My brother and I bought identical 50L Rook backpacks for a three day two nighter. We packed heavy since we hadn't been in awhile. Both of us had no problem fitting the packs. Absolutely no quality concerns, nothing tore or ripped.Inside there is largely no organization in this pack. You have separate spots in the brain and the bottom sleeping bag portion, but nothing inside the main pack. That's fine, but something you should know.When fully packed up (our trail weight was 45 lbs. people will laugh at this for being too heavy. we were tired by the end :) ) we were unable to use the hydration sleeve for our water bladders. This was a huge deal for us. We were going backcountry and had to treat our water. I have a camelbak 3L with no leaks and my brother had a Hydrapak 2.5L. Neither could be put in the hydration sleeve, since even without the compression straps on the side the pack puts too much pressure on the hydration sleeve portion. This caused water to press out of the bottom nozzles on both of our otherwise non-leaking hydration packs. We ended up having to lay the bladders across the top of everything else packed in the backpack instead of using the sleeve. Minor.Rain sleeve is a nice bonus for this price point, saved us a couple times and let you leave the pack outside your tent without worrying about it. Water bottle netting on both sides is oddly designed. Holds nalgenes pretty well, but has a side opening. I'm sure this is supposed to be for easier access while hiking, but it just made a risk of things falling out. Wasn't able to reach either opening of the water bottle holders with the pack on anyway.Overall very pleased with the pack. Some minor design complaints but overall did us very well.

Everything I’d expect out of an osprey at the price I paid. If I wanted more comfort or utility, I’d have to pay twice as much, so I’m cool with what this gives- which is adequate for comfort, high as expected for utility. Style is also great.

It’s hard to doubt quality when you’ve heard nothing but good things, just got this in today originally ordered a rook 50 bag and got a Atmos 50 instead for the price of a rook. No complaints. Over all great looking bag, with a nice front outside pocket which the rook doesn’t have( I already had plans to put a net of some kind on the Rook glad I didn’t order the stuff) great bag, great company. Would recommend.
