From a Jap Maple guy: Buy this tree!!
This is a superb variety of the coral bark. This variety of Coral Bark is "Beni Kawa", which is a newer and improved version of the "Sango Kaku"- the variety you've most likely seen at a local nursery. If you have seen an older Sango Kaku then you will notice the older 3-4 year old bark starts to turns green. With this variety of the Beni Kawa the bark is a more intense red color. The leaves are also more of a lime green and have more red. The bark also stays more red as the plant ages. This is a fast growing maple (for the first few years). The more shade, the more intense the red will be.And this is a fantastic company to buy from. If you love Jap Maples, then you should definitely buy one of these! This was a very healthy plant that was well branched and stood all of 36" tall.I ordered one of these and one of the Purple Ghost. They both came packaged together very well, staked and supported from shifting. I was impressed that shipping took less than two days from across the country. I have since ordered many more from this company (at least a dozen). I may sound like a salesman, but I am just a very satisfied customer and a lover of these beautiful trees!

Died almost immediately
Small tree for the price, but I was looking for something different. It died in under two months. Didnt put out any new growth at all. No response at all from the company. Don't bother, not worth it.

Nice Looking Trees, Reasonable Price, Excellent Packaging
I was hesitant on buying live trees through Amazon, but decided to go ahead any way.I purchased a Floating Cloud and a Coral Bark from this seller. Shipping made me nervous, but the trees arrived just today. Packaging was excellent. The Floating Cloud is only a 2 yr specimen, so quite small. The Coral Bark was larger and gently bent to fit in the box. Both plants still had moist soil and were securely and completely wrapped with plastic at their bases (including the containers). The seller also included two firm bamboo supports, one for each tree, I guess as a safety precaution for shipping. A couple of leaves on the Coral Bark took a hit, but this is to be expected.I promptly planted both trees in appropriate sized containers and placed them in a protected area outdoors. I will follow-up with an update as to health, but everything looks good so far.I wish the seller would offer larger specimens. I would pay for all shipping costs to get a 7 to 9 year tree.Edit: Both trees are doing great after several months. I've ordered additional specimens from this seller.

Not a 3 year plant - this is a 6" tall seedling
The plant is very healthy & survived shipping. It will be beautiful in a few years.

Cute Little Guy
The Japanese Maple I ordered was shipped quickly, and the transaction went smoothly. My only complaint would be that I vastly underestimated how small a "3-year graft" would be. The tree has leafed out (I ordered in late Winter) beautifully. But it is a tiny twig,,,maybe 1/4 the thickness of a pencil. Let's hope they grow fast! It was healthy however, which is most important. Overall, I am satisfied, and excited to see the fall color!

Arrived very quickly: but at what cost?
This would have been a great little sapling that arrived only a few days after placing my order. Much to my delight I retrieved my large sized US Postal Service box from my concierge and dashed upstairs to see what this tree looked like.In carrying it, I noticed the distribution of weight easily showed where the root ball was going to be and there was a shift to the contents that isn’t uncommon in shipping all together. Upon opening and sliding the little guy out, however, I was startled to see they put a bamboo stake in to apparently stabilize the whole thing (think orchid) and never bothered to tie part of the stem to secure it.This blunder cost this tree 75% of its hard earned growing period of 1-3 years. After attempting to repair the break and stabilize it, the leaves quickly wilted and I had to cut it down and discard. Now a few measly twigs at its base are all that I have left. With a heavy heart, I only award this seller two stars from this experience. It was a really neat tree and I still have the tiny portion of it unaffected by the break so I’m hoping it stays alive and recovers in the next years ahead. The value for the money (with shipping to NH totaled $44) simply isn’t here. The shipping speed was stellar, the Neanderthal packing job wasn’t.

This tree is absolutely gorgeous and beautiful. It grows at a very slow rate which ...
2022 Update!!!!!: I love this tree so much. It’s thrived since we moved it and today, I noticed the most beautiful “helicopters” growing on it!!!! I will have “buddy” 8 years this august. I believe it was 3 years old when I bought it. As you can see in the more recent pictures, he’s beautiful. And I trim mike regularly. And yes, these pics are the same tree ❤️I bought this tree in August of 2014. Let me start by saying, we named our tree Buddy. I planted it with my husband at our old home and, when he passed away, we dug it up and moved it to my new home. This tree is absolutely gorgeous and beautiful. It grows at a very slow rate which is what we wanted. It was a three year graft so I’d say it’s about 7 years old now and it’s about 3-4 feet tall (guesstimate). I’ve included pictures for my review. Basically, (and maybe for sentimental reasons) I love this tree so much. It needed some TLC when it arrived but you can’t blame that on the tree, but the shipping process.

Delightful colors
I was intrigued by an article in our local newspaper that praised the Coral Bark maple as a colorful addition to a landscape. I couldn't find one in our area nurseries so turned to Amazon, my favorite provider. Although the tree is small (young) it has already taken root in our yard and is leafing out nicely. Everyone remarks about the color of the bark and the leaves are different from our mostly green foliage. I would recommend this tree to anyone as long as the buyer is patient to watch a young sprout grow.
