This book is for people that don't want to spend ALL their time watering, hoeing, mulching, tending, weeding & caring for a garden to get 2 tomatoes!

Magnificent Book
Smart, funny, practical, useful, helpful, successful, ... Gosh, I'm in love.If you could afford only one gardening book, this is where you should spend your money. Ruth Stout was decades ahead of her time, sharing simple, effective practices that "researchers" and "experts" are publishing as cutting edge ideas today, 70 years later

Fantastic
Absolutely wonderful read received earlier than stated and was so helpful to this girl with never having a green thumb in the garden has already helped all my herbs revive almost immediately too early for the rest of planting but so far looks like a much better gardening year for me due to this book thank you so much

Ms. Stout is a genuine delight!!
I LOVE Ruth Stout. I only wish she were still alive so I could tell her so. This woman is the patron saint of folks like me who are physically limited. I have arthritis in most all of my connective tissue and I really thought I would have to give up vegetable gardening as I got older. Her methods have taken so much of the strain and aches out of gardening that I am sure I will be able to enjoy it for many more years. She has wonderful, experience-based tips and methods that you most likely wouldn't think of if you have been raised in the traditional mindset of growing your own food. The only thing I find to be a drawback is that come harvest time, you will probably want to invite a few friends over! LOL LOL. The bounty is plentiful and there is work to do on that end. When you get such satisfaction from planting something and watching it grow, how can that be a drawback? Her dry sense of humor makes the reading a delight as well. I would, and have, recommended her books to anyone that has ever engaged me in a conversation about gardening. I hope you will give her a try. It is worth triple the price!!!

Grandma Says "Mulch"
-Mulch 8" thick with spoiled/moldy/bad/cheap hay and more as needed anytime (25 50-pound bales as about the minimum for 50 feet by 50 feet, or about a half-ton of loose hay to start).-Add #5/100ft2 cottonseed meal in the dead of winter on top of everything. There are several other things she enjoys like salt solutioning your Brassicas, but a quick online summary (or the two bullets above) is adequate to cover the heart of it...it is simple after all. I lost my grandmas last year and it feels like an old lady's meandering story which gave me some smiles. It is a 2-star book with a 5-star idea.

Good book
This is the book, Gardening Without Work, that was reprinted and is in book stores with the lady sleeping in a wheel barrow on the cover.True this book has the least information about the overall mulching method. But it is still a good read in the winter waiting for spring. She rants a lot about her favorite vegetable and how she freezes them. You can get some good nuggets in here.My favorite Ruth Stout book is Having a Green Thumb Without an Aching Back; the No Work Garden Book is also worth reading if you decide you like Ruth Stout.Still if this is all you can get your hands on, then this book is worth buying and reading. You'll get the general idea of Ruth's system: Mulch your garden with 8 inches of hay. Don't compost. Just fling your kitchen scraps on your garden or hide it behind some vegetable plants. If you think it's unslightly then cover it with hay. To protect plants from frost just cover them with hay. Although sometimes she did throw an old blanket over some of them. That's it. I read all 3 of her garden books to put that synopsis together.

I loved this book and as I have just been given ...
I loved this book and as I have just been given an allotment I am using her methods to suppress the weeds and feed the earth. Before I bought this book I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of digging my allotment required. (It was in a bit of a state) Now I don't need to do any digging. I love her sensible approach and sense of humour and was sad to get to the end as I enjoyed it so much.
