A supplemental booklet
It's meant to work alongside of whatever curriculum or class that your student is currently focusing/working on and through. The booklet isn't very long or in-depth but I find it helpful for extra work as well as using the included assessments to judge comprehension and weaknesses. I'm using the book to help strengthen common ideas and concepts found in English Grammar studies.

Easy Approach
I really like the structure of this book. The work is not jumbled each page has a throughly structured format. My 9 year old daughter has been home schooled on and off since 1st grade because so many teachers would try to discourage her from learning. Once your child is discouraged it's very hard to get them back interested to doing educational studies. When this book arrived, I did the first page with my daughter and when we made it to the second page she wasnt interested anymore. So, I left it opened and sat this book on my daughter's bed with the pencil in the center crease. One day had passed and she did not go back to it. So, I closed the book and put the pencil away but still left the book on her bed.On the third day, my daughter had came to me and asked for a pencil. She begin to work through the book on her own solving the problems. This book is great for reinforcing grammar skills and for re-encouraging your child. This book also has an easy approach. I believe that easy and fun is always the best way to teach children, it plants the seed of eagerness to learn.

I wish I could give it 3.5 stars but it's better not worse, so it gets 4.
I wish I could give it 3.5 stars but it's better not worse, so it gets 4. The book is almost perfect for our needs. This will be our first year trying home school, and the first semester we are going to review all of second grade. So saying that, it is a review or a good intro for the subjects for 2nd grade. We are trying home school because my kid isn't being challenged enough, so maybe I have a bad gauge on whats expected, but this seems all really simple to follow stuff she did last year. But like I said, perfect for what we need.A couple cons; it dedicates 26 pages to verbs! That's 26 of 62 pages just on verbs. Wild! It has no adverbs and that's a bummer, but it's OK we learned last year that her work books didn't address A LOT of adverbs, so finding something online is fine.TLDR; this is a great book for an intro to 2nd grade grammar or a good review after (or over) summer break for 3rd graders.

Great books
Buy all these books. My sons in second grade and I buy all the grades and with me helping him with the books and the schools, he's become advanced. Have your kids do one or two pages once a week and it will help them tremendously.

Great practice
I might buy another copy soon. I have used this title and others in the series for both elementary tutoring and adult ESL instruction. I have found them extremely useful and appropriate for both kinds of learners because the explanations and examples are good and the activities are fun for children.

a good starting point for someone just learning English
or if you were like me, a latch key kid who never did his homework and are nearly functionally illiterate, this is also a good starting point for you also. i don't know why it isn't more commonly realized but grammar school was the most important training we receive. i'm 74 and i have spent most of my life of and on,trying to do remedial work to come up to a decent level.when i got to college i found out i would need quite a bit of grammar school remedial work to be qualified to begin studying for any useful degree. my advice, if you are remedial, admit it and get busy studying
