The best we've had but still not perfect
After much research, we bought this habitat instead of the OVO Suite/spherical models because we wanted the option to use a separate suction-cup water bottle in case the included one gave us trouble like other reviewers mentioned. We actually ended up using both water bottles. We also liked the OVO Loft because it is one of the very few options in hamster cages that does NOT have bars. No matter how many tubes, wheels, saucers and toys we gave our robo hammies, they still chewed on cage bars (which can screw up their teeth, cause brain damage - and is just generally annoying) so we needed a completely plastic habitat. We like the OVO Loft a lot. We have two dwarf Roborovsky hamsters and this habitat seems to be a good size for them with added tubes, a den and Mini Tower. They love the chewable maze/playground that comes with the OVO Loft. We just had to remove the wheel that's included because they are too small for it. The habitat is definitely BIGGER than specified on Amazon. It is actually about 13" x 29" with the water bottle. Our a few pretty minor complaints - the window/holes on the sides are at odd angles which, if you don't have climbing hamsters and need a horizontal tube path, forces you to purchase the curve tubes. You CAN go without the curve tubes if you have plenty of space for this habitat, but the tube path will stick out at an odd angle. I added a picture if you want to see what I'm talking about. I also wish the base were transparent instead of opaque-white. We used to have them in a clear aquarium (that was just too boring) so now, whenever we go over to see what our hamsters are doing, we often frighten them because they can't see us coming. The last small complaint is a general Habitrail one - I wish they still made completely-plastic habitats without bars that are more modular like a cube, rather than these space-agey, oddly-shaped habitats. They'd take up less space and be more aesthetically-pleasing to hamster owners who are older. Bottom line though: this is the best we've found. Our hammies are very happy in it, it IS escape-proof and the large size of the OVO Loft gives you lots of options to add tubes and playgrounds off to the side, as well as several things you could place inside the Loft such as wheels, saucers, igloos, mazes, etc.

LARGEST of the Habitrail OVO line-up Excellent for hamsters, gerbils, or mice
The media could not be loaded. I have the entire Habitrail OVO hamster habitat collection and this is the largest of all.Very simple and easy to assemble, with very few parts to connect.Has the standard exercise wheel that is a little over 7 inches in diameter, it's attached to the hideout which is also the food dish. Always lubricate the wheel axle with olive oil or something comparable or you'll go loco from the sounds. The hideout is opaque, so it's nice and dark which will make your pet feel very secure and hidden. The tray is deep, 5" to be exact and holds lots of deep litter for hiding and tunneling. There is an included "maze" which is cardboard for additional chewing and hiding space for hamsters, mice, etc...I like the cardboard maze because you can insert chew sticks and other chewables and even make a small chew-tree forest if you like. They sell replacement maze materials when your pet finishes dismantling the one included. It's LARGE, 27" long, 12" wide at the hinges, so roughly 324 square inches of floor space, when you add this loft to your other Habitrail habitats, you'll have plenty of room for your hamster to live happily ever after. The water bottle holds way more water than our hamsters drink, and the point is to never let your pet run out of water. The metal water bottle drinking attachment is thin so you can easily clean both sides of it very well before putting it back into your cage. The ball bearing designs often sold for pets generally build up slime and bacteria inside the metal tube and you can't get in there to clean it, so this is a good drinker design.More about the water bottle, you need to fill it about 2/3 of the way full, so the water will not continually drip, but leave air space so it will create the vacuum which also prevents unnecessary dripping. Once you figure that balance out, it's a really good drinking system. There are three access points, the ends each slide open so you can pick up your pet, or access the food tray, coming in to visit your pet from the ends will make it easier for your hamster to know you're there and it will not be so "shocked" or "surprised" as often happens when your hand comes down from above. The locks/latches are very secure and when properly closed, you'll have zero escapes. The peanut-shaped metal top is also lockable and removable, giving you access to the entire interior of the cage, you can see at a glance if it's locked or left open by young pet caregivers. If the center slat is at 90 degrees to the bin side, it's locked, if it's at 45 degrees, "someone" has left it unlocked. The removable top access plate is also full of ventilation holes and the entire system is well vented while preventing those drafts that hamsters, in particular, do not like.Very easy to clean, components all go together very well, lots of space for adding chews and entertaining appointments for small pets.Excellent clear viewing of your pets from all sides.I give this Habitrail OVO Loft FIVE Stars and consider it a very good addition to any pet cage village you may be building.Recommended without reservation.

Close to being perfect, except for the den it comes with...
This is a nifty hamster house. I love that it is easy to clean, it has no wire bars, and it looks pretty cool. It's big, plenty of room for our hamster to run around like a nut. The wheel is quiet and the maze offers hiding space for her. The water bottle tends to leak if left upright, so we turned it at a slight angle - this way it does not leak and the hamster has an easier time of drinking out of it. We added a wooden bridge for her to chew on and a ladder for her to climb on, and we added some tunnels and a den. I recommend the Habitrail OVO tunnels, the hamster loves climbing up and down them and it's a lot of fun to watch her.The only thing I really don't like about the OVO Loft is the little den underneath the food dish that the wheel attaches to. It's not easy to clean inside, which is an issue if your hamster likes to use their sleeping area as a potty, like ours. We have to clean our hamster's den every day and it was way too much of a pain to disassemble the wheel assembly every day. We ended up having to put a couple of big rocks inside as a barrier to her entering that little den, and we added an OVO Den for her, which she happily ended up liking (the OVO Den is super easy to clean). She was able to chew around the bottom of the wheel assembly trying to access her old den - this stopped after a few days but the bite marks are clearly visible, so the wheel assembly is not chew-proof (all other parts of the loft DO seem to be chew-proof).The OVO Loft is on the expensive side, but it is quiet, which is what we wanted - no hamster chewing wire bars all night long keeping us awake, no squeaky wheel, etc. Be aware that buying the little add-ons (such as tunnels) becomes addictive and the overall price does add up!

Not bad and better than expected
After reading other reviews on this product I had some concerns fitting one to my gerbil's cage. Sadly, I have an old version of habitrail's tank, and the bottles to fit it are no longer manufactured. I was left with no option other than to give this product a chance, or face buying a completely new set up.A frequent critisism I have come accross is that the bottle leaks. This is true, most especially when the bottle is being filled and fitted initially. Once in place and secure the problem is not as bad as I had feared, and soaking up any excess water with a tissue once a day or so deals with the issue well. I have never seen my gerbil looking wet or at all distressed because of this excess moisture. On the other hand this water will soak into the bedding your pet may push into the tube below the bottle. For this reason I have found it sensible to raise the bottle up with two corner or T junctions before attaching it.The bottle has a large capacity, more then is really justified by the size of hamsters and gerbils. This may lead to some owners failing to replace the water as often as is desireable. Additionally the weight of the water will strain your cage set up unless it is supported from below or located close to the opening to the main cage. I initially set it up several twists away from the cage, and the weight caused the entire section to break away and fall on the floor, which could potentially result in injury or escape. On a positive note this bottle deals with one flaw that effects more traditional designs. We have used a conventional bottle on a wire cage previously, and once our gerbils became quite distressed when the ball inside the spout became stuck and they were unable to drink. We did not notice this problem for a while leaving them thirsty. This will never happen with the habitrail bottle, as it relies on gravity alone to allow the animal to drink. Unless you are planning a trip to a weightless environment this bottle should work reliably! The bottle is also attractive to look at and fits in well with other habitrail equipment. It is easy to clean. On the whole I am happy with this product. However, if I had my gerbil in a cage with bars allowing me a choice, I would certainly swop to a different one.

Great for little Hammy's Holidays
My parents have 2 cats, and we were going on holiday for a week. These cats are outdoor cats that love to chase ad catch little furry things, and I didn't want my hammy to be their next meal! After doing some research (and the fact that our hamster loves chewing metal bars) we decided that this would be a really great alternative, and be cat safe! The house comes with a cardboard liner, which gave hammy some holes to climb through and something to chew, the little wheel is pretty silent, unless the hamster is running full pelt! The fact its plastic meant she couldn't chew the bars and keep the whole house awake, and when we bought her downstairs for some attention, the cats just simply sat and watched her run around the wheel, and I felt good knowing she was safe. The only issue we had is the water bottle, its a circular ball that drips water, our hamster couldn't figure out how to use this, and we noticed that the bottle constantly dripped so we were left with a huge wet puddle in the cage. We ended up using a smaller animal water bottle from pets at home, and cello-taping it to the cage (we stuck the silver nozzle through the hole where the originally bottle was sat) and she drank away no problems. The cage is easy to clean, transport and was a great purchase to take our hammy on her holidays!

Fantastic Hamster Cage
I have owned hamsters for around 10 years as I rent and move from place to place so it is not possible to have a large pet.Rodents are great but the most important thing they need is a home that is suitable. I have had many types of cage before but this one seems to have hit the nail on the head. I love the way it looks, modern and fashionable and has all the added extra's that you and your rodent needs. This is ideal for a Syrian who loves living alone and need plenty of space. The cage takes literally seconds to put together and comes with everything shown with the OVO Loft model, wheel and house or storage room my hamster seems to use it for and a Maze cardboard insert however I chose not to use this as the space inside without it is a luxury for my hamster. The cage fits together perfectly and is very well made, the roof is excellent to gain access from above and the sliding doors allow me to give the hamster some access to the outside world without needing to lift her out.Coming from a smaller cage that she is just too big for now this gives her plenty of room to move around in and is sturdy and will be very hard wearing in the long run. One of the more important aspects for me personally is the high concealed sides and carefully positioned air holes, this means that you do have sawdust all over the place when my little lady starts digging and jumping around. The only thing I am slightly concerned with is the clever and funky looking water bottle, she seems confused by it and how it works so you may need to squeeze the sides to begin with and let the rodent see where the water comes from.Overall a superb cage roomy and full of possibilities, I have just ordered the OVO Den to attach to the other side. Great cage! Leaky water bottle, awkward design if wanting to use tube extensions
At my local pet store this costs about $20 CAD more than here on Amazon. Using this for my dwarf hammy in conjunction to a terrarium, his other habitrails, as well as a bin play cage.PROS:- Easy to assemble- Compatible with other habitrail tubes- Easy to clean- Wheel is almost silent- Multiple openingsCONS:- Water bottle still has the leaking issue (same bottle as other habitrail products)- Bulky, awkwardly shaped. The connectors on the unit are placed at opposite corners of the cage. Connecting tube extensions to the loft would make this cage even bulkier and would take too much floor space, inefficiently. If I were to take up that much space for the cage, I would rather have it as a wide, flat terrarium.OVERALL:I would recommend this as a supplementary cage for a hamster. To make this a primary cage it would need a lot of extensions, but the design of this model makes it impossible to do so using little floor space. My hamster doesn’t care for the cardboard mazes it comes with, but that’s not the products fault.
