Good Variety of Sounds, If You Can Handle Loops
We actually initially bought this for my husband and I to sleep. We are young enough to still be apartment dwellers and being able to sleep through noisy neighbors is important!PROS: the number of sounds are great, it gets nice and loud, and the buttons are easy to navigate in the dark.CONS: most sounds are on a noticeable loop, it is REALLY bright even on its dim setting, it's vulnerable to your cell phoneMy pros are self-explanatory, but I'll expand on my cons, especially since I still like this enough to not only give it a four-star rating but we bought the exact same machine to put in our new son's nursery. The problem we've found is that the only sound not on a loop that is noticeable that we cannot sleep is the falling rain sound. Otherwise you find yourself listening to the loop. We like the falling rain sound, though, and it really helps us sleep through the HORRIBLY loud upstairs neighbors with their FOUR HOURS EVERY NIGHT temper tantrum throwing 3 year old, so thank goodness!Additionally, it's really bright--others have said it because it's true! But for us, we don't use this for the clock (we have a different one that shines the numbers onto the ceiling) so I just point it away from the bed on my night stand and it's no big deal.Lastly, and I can't fault this particular machine too much for this since it seems to be common in many electronics, but one gripe I have is that if I plug in my iPhone to charge overnight (which I typically do, over-charing the battery be darned) then sometimes it makes this horrible, squelching interference sound. It drives me batty! I have to keep them at least 8 inches or so apart and the cords to each machine cannot touch one another in any way. It may be a small thing, but since these are two next-to-the-bed staples then it can be annoying!Still, overall, we really do like this machine. For the price it's a solid deal, and like I said, it's great for the transition from sleeping in our room to sleeping in his own room for our son. Plus, if you like bright lights (and I do have to say that for being bright, at least it casts a blue glow and not red or green!) and/or don't mind loops, or can more easily get used to them, this is great for you! Otherwise, you might want to try something else.

You won't sleep through this radio alarm
The time can be manually set. Really, that was the most important factor to me. I needed for the time to be manually set because this is replacing a unit that had an autoset which got ruined as a timepiece after a power surge. This also has alkaline battery backup which I appreciate. It's got soothing sounds and an FM radio. Basically it's got everything that I was looking for at a reasonable price. Some aspects of using it are a pain in the tuckus. It took some trial and error to finally figure out how to set the alarm. Some of the settings can only be accessed by first pressing either Radio or Sound Therapy, depending on the desired result. When the radio alarm comes on, it is very loud. No amount of adjusting the volume changes that if you have the radio on as the alarm, only if you're playing the radio without the alarm on. Little weird settings like this make some aspects of using this more complicated than they needed to be, but once you figure out the machine's quirks it's alright. The snooze button works a treat; it doesn't turn the radio all the way off but rather adjusts the volume to its lowest setting, so you can still hear a whisper of music. The snooze lasts about 15 minutes and then you're back to max volume again. If you can sleep through that, no clock radio had a chance of waking you. There is also a buzzer alarm that you can select instead, and you can use the soothing sounds as the alarm but as I sleep with the soothing sounds on I've discovered to my chagrin that the soothing sounds makes a poor alarm setting for me. As for the soothing sounds themselves, they are not as realistic sounding as the Homedics ones, but the loop is not obvious either. So far I'm feeling like I'm getting my money's worth out of the Conair.

Helps My Kids Sleep, and easy to travel with!
I got this to replace the air cleaner that we have run in my son's bedroom at night to block out noise from TV and conversation. Plus I didn't want to spend the $100 bucks they want for a new air filter.PRO:SWorks great, easy to use!We can travel with it when we go to stay with my parents or when we go to the lake, it fits right in the lugauge...Pleanty of volume, and options. My son loves the radio, it's his first in his room... We love it!CONS:It is hard to read the led read out on the clock unless you are directly in front of it and at the right height, and the nature sounds are a little "canned" with some artificial noise artifacts embedded, but they all just add to the white noise effect. These things are easily overlooked by us, and don't really feel they are problematic enough to trully complain about it. I am sure you can get better units that have better sound if you want to pay way more.If youe are looking for a device to do what I wanted it to do, You will be more than satisfied with this unit.>>Update<< almost 3 years later our two "sound machines" as my kids call them are still working like the day we bought them very pleased. Well worth the money spent. I'd buy them again. Just be careful if they are left in a place where your kids can reach them- it apparently very easy to turn on the alarm for 12:00. Every once in a while my wife and I will be awoken by the sudden change of sound to an alarm sound as one of our boys inadvertantly set the alarm for midnight... not awesome. But that is my only beef. Overall great, well made units!Update--4/21/2012: The time readout is still as hard to read as the day we got them unless you are looking at just the right angle. But 4 years later they also work as well as the day we got them. And we travel with them all the time too. So they get knocked around a bit from time to time. Great overall product!

Display is too bright and the whole thing stopped working after 1 year
I had to block the display right from the start cause even on the lowest setting it was so bright that it lit up the whole bedroom and I couldn't sleep, but I worked around that. After 1 year of use it died, woke up this morning and the alarm hadn't gone off, display was off, nothing worked. The last alarm clock/sound machine I had lasted 10 years and only cost $30, this one was $45, I should've returned it from the start, too late now, buyer beware of this item.

Nice sound machine for drowning out unwanted noises
I like thesenoise machines, my kida always want it on, either water fall or white noise. Had two units for a while, one started to have issues getting sound to go, the replacemebt I ordered, had to push the volume dial to even get sound but I am persistent and want a good one for my kid so just returning thw one I just received and waiting for a replacement, no big deal. Other wise happy with the product and the end result of what my kids like

Nice idea, but sound could be better!
Great turn around time re delivery! Nice design; however, the time display is on a light blue background light and I would prefer orange or green numbering. It doesn't take up a lot of space and relatively easy to learn; however, the sounds don't sound authentic at all. I was disappointed with that feature and it was the main reason why I bought it as my other two clock alarms served their purpose and work great.10 different sounds which is a great choice, but they need to be more authentic!

Just what I was looking for.
I was looking for something to replace the sound of the fan in my room. I noticed now that summer is ending I had gotten use to the sound of our fan, and required it to sleep. I wanted a sound machine that could compensate. The while noise setting did the trick. I am not sure why so many state they had a hard time programming the time and alarms. It seemed pretty straight forward to me, I was able to figure it out without the instructions. Great purchase.

Trop clair
