Corona HS 3911 Forged Hedge Shear, 8-1/4-Inch Blade, Nuetral

I needed a new pair of shears and bought a pair from my local big box home store. I'm cutting ornamental grasses back, arborvitaes, and some thin branched hedges (privet type hedges). The shears from the box store could not cut this light stuff!! I could not believe! The grass would go between the blades and not get cut, there was a gap.I needed a new pair because my old pair were finally worn out. Since I had to return the useless shears to the big box home store, I decided to see if I could order another pair of what I had because they lasted for YEARS and were great. To my amazement I had a pair of Corona model HS 3911, and they are still being made today, and they were available on Amazon!These Corona HS 3911 shears are perfect for cutting ornamental grasses and thin stuff where you want easy precise cuts. They probably won't be cutting thick branches, but they are not made for that. If you need to cut thick stuff get loppers. These things are like giant scissors, super sharp, well made, solid steel and hardwood construction. They cut like budda and are identical to the pair I bought YEARS ago. I was thinking I needed to pay $70 or $80 for a decent pair of shears these days given what I got from the home store, but these Corona shears are all you need. I would have happily paid double as long as they were good quality, like the stuff you use to get! Luckily I didn't have to.If you are on the fence, get these. I'm sure they will last me as many years as my last pair did. Good job Corona!

These trimmers fit naturally in your hands with the comfortable round wooden grips which have just the right amount of padding. The cutting action is clean and precise and the notched limb cutter works well to cut larger pieces with ease. The blades look robust and should provide years of good service since they are able to be resharpened.Overall a great value for the price.

These are are nice but they are very dainty. Perfect for a lady but maybe too small for a man.

This short handle hedge shear works fine for cutting and trimming - when the stems and branches are the right size - fairly thin or small. The handles are too short to get sufficient leverage on thicker soft material (1/4 or more). When closed, the blades touch only at the hinge and the tip - not the full length. So, they cut only at the small point where they pass each other during the scissor action. This is normal for many hedge clippers. However, built like this, the cutting point can miss the material and then the blades can bind on the material.I own the long handle version of these shears and the blades touch each other the full length of the cutting surface - at all times. Built like this, binding only occurs near the tip or near the blade hinge. Of course, no shear works if the material is just too large in size or quantity.I gave a lower 3 star rating because I expected corona to build these shears to operate the same as the long handle version that already owned and used.

This the 2nd pair of shears from the company. 1st pair survived a decade of work clearing heavy forest undergrowth. From thornbushes to vines these things work incredibly well and the steel is good quality.
