Great barebones box
When I bought this I was retiring an old, 6-year-old Dell XPS box. I wanted to recycle as much as possible for my next computer, which of course precludes buying a new Dell or HP or anything else, which would include a new HDD and memory chips, etc.So I bought this, which gives me enough space for my Radeon R7 260X. It is so much lighter than that Dell tower. As you may find in other reviews, this does not include WiFi or Bluetooth, but for that I bought AzureWave Broadcom BCM94352HMB/BCM94352 802.11/ac/867Mbps WLAN + BT4.0 Half Mini PCI-E Card. Note that this doesn't include the antennas or pigtails which you'll need. Look for "Wi-fi Antenna Kit RP-SMA Antennas". (For the linked WLAN card, you'll need 2--one for WiFi and one for BT.) If the antennas you go with do not come with pigtails, you'll need to look for "U.fl/IPEX to RP-SMA cables". If those pigtails are shorter than, say, 12 to 16 inches (30-40 cm), look for "Male to Female RP-SMA Extension Cable" to take up the difference. One thing I know for sure is that my 8-inch (20-cm) pigtails were not long enough. One thing I'm disappointed with is that for me, at least, the button that should open the optical drive tray does not work. I've investigated to figure out how it should work, and I think I've positioned the drive as it should be, but it still isn't doing its job. Oh well, it's not like I have a lot of use for an OD anyway.

Great case
I bought this case since it is small and quiet and energy efficient. It is wider than the old shuttle cases 6 years back, but if it's anything like that one from a reliability standpoint it should be great. I can tell they kept the exact same cooling system and layout, and just updated it for the times. The DVD is hidden behind a panel that gets pushed down when it ejects. You can use any 2.5 to 3.5 adapter for the hard drives if putting a ssd in it. Shuttle has one and it is slightly more expensive than others out there. One complaint I have is the locking screws that hold the heat-sink to the cpu don't give you a lot of confidence. It took multiple attempts to convince myself they will hold.

Video Card runs hot.
It is good for the most part. However it seems when you plug and unplug USB devices on the back, the NIC interface will sometimes lose and recover link. I really worry that this is some sort of bad soldering joint in one of the rear panel connectors. When at idle or just watching movies, web browsing, the thing is silent and very nice. However I am also running a gtx970 in this thing and while the CPU temps stays in reasonable range, the 970 gets to 85C under load. There needs to be some sort of solution to improve the video card cooling. There needs to be a lot more air holes on the side where the video card sits.

Flawless, fast, and stylish
Amazingly fast when built with a Core i7-4790, 16 GB of memory, and SSD. Added a 3.5" card reader to the middle bay and a DVD drive to the top bay. I like how the front panel slides open and down when the CD-ROM drive is opened. It was a no hassle build, everything worked great right away. I recommend the HP Wireless Elite v2 as a perfectly matching keyboard & mouse combo. I am using this rig for everything from heavy video editing using Adobe tools to lite document creation using MS office.

Awesome form factor, but defective.
Started using this as a HomeLab with ESXi 5.5. Vmware removed the NIC drivers for Realtek so google up and there's plenty of guides to fix it. Giving it two stars for two main reasons: First, after a while running I was getting random locks and restarts; I thought it was ESXi but it happened within the BIOS, so it was definitely a mobo issue, returned this unit. The second reason is IT'S LOUD, when spinning a VM the fan would get REALLY LOUD. You would think a small plane was in your room. Replaced this one with the SZ version and it's running smoothly.

Unstable.
I really like what this device offers, but it doesn't execute very well. It offers Haswell i7 performance in a small package but it crashes often, the BIOS is extremely weak, and I won't be buying another Shuttle. The first case I got had a faulty Power Supply. Google "shuttle won't boot" and you'll find many poor kindred souls. Amazon was great with the return and this new case is at least powering up.The BIOS is less than stable. For example, when you suffer a crash (often), half the time the BIOS will have become corrupted as a result. The only method I have found to fix this is to pull the plug, open the case, pull the BIOS battery, and hold down the power button for 30 seconds, then hold down the CMOS Clear button (back of the case) for 30 seconds, then put the battery back in and boot up. The BIOS will then allow you to load defaults by pressing F1.I installed Linux Mint 16 on this and it freezes pretty regularly. I hate this thing.

Just what I wanted.
If you want a small footprint desktop, this case fits the bill. I am not sure how the specs work out for a gamer but I wanted something a bit more stable for a work platform. Been using laptops for years and got tired of them failing because of inferior quality parts. built this thing with some high end stuff and man is it fast. Running Linux and using it for work through remote desktops. Haven't needed my windows box yet. The CPU stays very cool with the heat pipe thing, much cooler than the laptops ever did with a fan right on top of the cpu. Fit a solid state primary drive and a larger 2tb data drive without a problem. haven't needed a dvd rom drive in years so didn't install one. I have it sitting on my desk and most people didn't even know it was a computer at first. I would buy this case in the future

Great stuff!
Really cool product and work quite well in line with my expectation. The only drawback was the lack of an VMware Esxi driver for the on-board Ethernet card. I was able to work around this by customising my Esxi installation. If you google around, there is a great resource for doing that. I even got a 2GB ram bundled with it because the vendor felt the packaging was a but rough..

Contento

Great little machine
Really nice barebone, small form factor and really quiet. With SSD, 8GB RAM and just i3 CPU, Windows 10 boots within 10 to 12 seconds. Great performance on integrated Intel Graphics.Highly recommended.
