Excellent light
I have this light paired with a glass versatop on a 29g tall - it makes for a real slim and clean profile to my tank. After having it for a few weeks, here are my thoughts of it:+ The LEDs definitely add the "shimmering" to the water that other reviews mention. It's a very nice and subtle effect.+ The price is cheaper than a lot of other LED hood options.+ Power consumption is a lot lower than a florescent light and this is a lot brighter than your average florescent.+ Very slim profile, really clean looking.- On my 29g tall, the lighting is a little uneven in the corners, since the LEDs project down.- The legs on the end of the light kind of clamp on to the sides of the tank. They are adjustable, but a little tight to adjust initially. If you are planning to run two of these lights on a bigger tank, just keep in mind that you need a lid for the legs to rest on in the middle or a versatop for the legs to rest on.- I have this light on a timer, but the switch on the unit only allows for either night LED mode or day LED mode. This means there isn't any way to use it with a timer to use the night LED effect automatically, you need to manually turn it to night LED mode. This isn't especially important to me, but it would be nice to have that feature available.- Not sure if I'd list this as a negative, but I don't think the lights are bright enough for a planted tank. I no longer have a planted tank, but if you are running a heavily planted setup, this might not work for you. Light output might be brighter than average florescent lights, but planted tanks tend to need far more light.Even with the negatives, I really like this light. I'm using it for a freshwater tank without any plants and it works great. I imagine most people looking at this light aren't going to try and use it with plants. Most of the drawbacks I see shouldn't affect the type of buyer that this item is targeted for.

Unsealed design leads to premature failure
This was our first LED aquarium light. As others have mentioned, it is not super bright but it was more than enough for our 30 gallon tank and our one live plant has really grown well with it. It is also lightweight, easy to deploy and remove as needed and adjusts as advertised. The night-time blue LED's work well and provide sufficient light for the fish while also providing a cool ambience in the room. The only problem, and I believe it to be a major one, is that the unit is not sealed- at all, which leads to an excessive accumulation of moisture inside the unit. Aside from corroding the single, large, printed circuit board, on which the LED's are mounted, it also accumulates the typical green algae on the inside of the clear plastic shield- that cannot be cleaned without disassembling the unit. After 11 months of use, the rocker switch that selects between Off, On and Night (blue) failed. I find the unsealed design of this unit to be a real issue considering it is intended to be mounted directly over a body of warm water and possibly subjected to continuous small splashes air bubbles leave the water. At this price, it should last more than 11 months. However, because I like the design, and the convenience of an open-top aquarium, I am going to order one more. This time, I will try to discreetly seal the unit with some clear sealer before placing it into service and hope that helps to extend its life.UPDATE: Our second unit failed after seven months! The applied sealant prevented the aforementioned problems, however, this time, the DC power jack corroded and failed- the one place I did not apply sealant:(

Fantastic value and good light in the right scenario
I have a fairly high light planted aquarium, and as anyone into planted tanks knows, you can't just run your "sun" all day. If you're like me, you often want to view your aquarium in off hours; the morning, before work, or in the evening, upon returning home. For that, you need some sort of accenscenarios hat won't make your tank explode with algae. That's how I use this light--I flip it on white whenever I want to simply view the aquarium during off hours, and use the night light for "mood" lighting. The white lights provide plenty of light for viewing my 33 gallon high aquarium, and I like the higher contrast and slight shimmer effect from the LEDs vs a regular fluorescent. As a bonus, it's so slim and low that you can't even see it mounted behind my regular T5HO lights. From PAR readings taken and displayed online, this won't grow plants, so don't expect it to do so. But for an accent light on a planted tank, or a main light on a tank with no live plants, this is a very nice light at an excellent price. Recommended.
