Firm plastic (not floppy), 6"x5" ovals work well
These oval cradles are 6"x5" and are great for my squash and tomatoes, but are too small for my medium sized pumpkins (I've since found larger wire ones for that). I was very pleased to see that, as I'd hoped, they're not floppy like so many of the other plastic cradles advertised - a trait which I would think defeats the purpose. Well made, albeit pricey, these are a great help in protecting the soil side of one's produce.

Price increase
I received an e-mail announcing a sale of items up to 31% off. I bought some melon/squash cradles in August and thought they might be on sale and I would buy two or three more sets. In August, I paid $9.00 for half a dozen and noticed today that they are not only not on sale, but almost $3.00 more per set. Too bad, I liked them and they work well, so nothing against the product, just the price. I thought they were a little over priced at %9.99 per set and at more than $2.00 for ONE melon cradle, they are way over-priced.

Just as advertised and have used this product for YEARS
So helpful keeping melons from dirt & excess moisture. We have used these in our garden for many years and needed more. The order came quickly for which we are thankful! They also keep critters from nibbling on the melons so easy as when the melons are on the ground.

Great but small and expensive
These are fabulous but small. I have four melons, three honeydew and one watermelon and these are holding them great and allowing growth over time without rotting from soil. But they will be too small soon for the honeydew and then what? The watermelon would have already outgrown it but something is wrong with my melon. I like the idea but I need another size up and maybe one more after that and would not buy three sets for extra sizes because honestly the cost is ridiculous.

"Melon's in the Cradle with a silver spoon....."
The "silver spoon" is just the fact that I received some of these as a gift, and then went online looking for more. I'm glad I found them. I have melons and squash growing in good numbers in my garden, so I got 3 dozen of these. They work perfectly, keeping the melon or squash elevated off of the ground, so the "resting side" doesn't get soft or damaged. These also help to make it more "inconvenient" for rabbits and other unwanted "visitors."

Not just for melons and squash!
I haven't used these for melon or squash yet, but I am finding them nice to put under my strawberries to keep them up off the ground as they begin turning red. My strawberry patch is relatively small, fortunately, but I am ordering some more for this purpose. I thought of rigging something up on my own, but I like these so well, that I am spoiling myself and collecting more. The strawberries will be done long before I will need them for the squash and melons, so it's win-win!

Nice Cradles...
These are so useful for my gardening needs. I've used them to catch falling tomatoes and for cucumbers and zucchini. They work just fine, but it would be better if they have longer feet.

They're nice, but probably unnecessary.
All along I was thinking these were GREAT until I harvested some watermelons that did not get to sit on a little cradle - they looked just as good. All the watermelons, both cradled and uncradled were undamaged and not too flat on any one side. I guess I'll use them next year since I already have them, but I probably won't buy any more. Also, it would be nice if the cradles weren't the same green color as the surrounding foliage.
