Fabulous Product During a Time of Need
First of all, this product is designed for patients undergoing eye surgery. Which can be a very stressful time. This is a life saver. OMG. It comes pre-assembled and is easy to use. You can attach it to your desk/table for reading, listening and relaxing and it reverses for easy attachment to your bed. The construction is very sturdy. When I initially order the product, an incorrect stand was sent. I immediately got on the phone with Amazon and they connected me with the company (for a three-way), who promised to deliver the correct product within two days-which they did. They were fabulous in resolving the mix up. I have nothing but praise for Amazon and the makers/distributors of this fine recovery aide. Five stars and Highly Recommended.

Beautiful Piece of Equipment, But...
I have to say, this really is a beautiful, well made, well thought out piece of equipment. However, it did not come with instructions on how to work the non-traditional locking levers. It took a bit to figure those out, but we finally did (**instructions will be at the end of this review). And, *it should come with stipulations on user physical size limitations. In addition, it DID NOT come with and sanitary disposable covers, though it lists those as a selling feature. I purchased this for a friend who had detached retina surgery. Unfortunately, this device will not work for someone who is on the shorter side with a pudgy middle section. She is about 5'3" and maybe 250 pounds. She was not able to bend at the middle section enough to be able to lay her head in the post surgery required head position. It just would not work. We did set it up under the mattress as a trial, so she would be able to lay flat on her abdomen with her face in the cushion to sleep. That worked well. It was easy to set-up. We also finally grabbed an adjustable height table, so that she could lower it enough to be able to bend over at her mid-section (without the provided chest cushion as her weight prevented use of that), to be able to place her head bent over and flat in the face cushion. But, that required that she had to sit on the very edge of a chair, not back and comfortable. A position she could never maintain for 5 minutes, much less, 7 to 14 days as was required post surgery.*Synopsis: for the person with an average size body, this is a very nice, well thought out, very usable post retina surgery piece of equipment. For shorter people who are overweight, this will not work.**Lever Instructions: Twist the levers in the direction that loosens them. Once loose enough (not too loose) they can be bent over completely flat against the device into the locking position. Also, in our not getting the covers or any directions, it makes me feel though sold as new, someone may have purchased this before me and returned it. Too many things missing.

Perfect for post eye surgery
I bought this and another piece of equipment in preparation for vitrectomy surgery to repair a macular hole which required me to remain face down for 7 days post-op.I used this equipment while sitting at a table, the counter, and in the car. It made all the difference in my ability to remain face down during the required period, and provided great support for my neck and back.I highly recommend this item if you are in need of supportive equipment for a vitrectomy. It worked great!

A Barely Adequate Solution
As I was about to have my third vitrectomy we decided to buy the head down appliance instead of renting. It worked ok but the knurled screws that hold the head cushion at the proper level continually allowed the position to slip despite no matter how much torque was applied. This is the primary function of the appliance. We bought the package that included the mirror and fleece cover. The mirror was fine but the cover was so baggy that it obstructed the view through the head cushion. It got the job done but easily could have been much better.

So glad to find this for serious eye surgery my daughter had.
Worked great! My daughter had to be face down night and day for 3 weeks after surgery. This device was perfect! the fleece face cover I purchased to go with the device did not work out too well. It was hard to breathe because of the fluffiness.

THIS ITEM ARRIVED DEFECTIVE AND THUS IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT TOGETHER
I had a series of eye surgeries and I needed this item for head positioning over a three month period. I was extreemely disappointed when it arrived defective and thus impossible to put together. Healthcare items such as this are used for serious, high risk surgeries; and thus quality control should have flagged this item prior to sending it to a customer.

Knob wouldn't work
My husband and I both tried to tighten the knobs to hold the face pad in place. The knob would go in WITHOUT the top inserted in place, but would not tighten with the top inserted. The manufacturer would do better with several "click in place" buttons to hold the top in a sturdy position to suit individual comfort. Did not reorder.

Really necessary during recovery
I used this during my recovery from vitrectomy. I also had the special chair and a bed unit, bit this one had the most comfortable face cradle. I advise everyone who has to undergo this surgery, with its onerous days of facedown position to have as many choices as you can afford, because the chair strains your legs, the bed unit strains your back, and this tabletop one provides relief from both the others. It's good to be able to change positions a few times a day (you can use your 10-minute breaks from facedown however you need to, and make the switch at the end of the break.
