It's Stan Sakai - You Know I'll Be Good
Once more Stan Sakai delivers an excellent collection of tales. That the quality of his writing and art has not diminished in all his many years of producing Usagi Yojimbo, especially in recent times with the serious illness of his wife, is a testament to the man's incredible talent and equally incredible work ethic.Oh, and this comic arrived really fast - kudos to the seller!

Another collected masterpiece
Another beautiful blending of samurai legend and sequential art from Mr. Sakai. I have been a fan of Usagi-san since the 80s and he has never let me down. I now take him in these collections and the stories are still just the greatest. My kids are now reading and enjoying them as well.

Another masterpiece.
Stan Sakai continues to create my favorite graphic novel. Seriously, just buy every single trade paper back. Read them. Lend them to friends. Usagi Yojimbo mixes adventure, history, drama, horror, love, honor, sword play, political intrigue and humor, in a way that is truly unique and wonderful.

A LOT of bad guys leave in the usual way
This book is another in an e3xcellent series written by Stan Sakai. It is slightly repetitive, Usagi comes to town, A LOT of bad guys leave in the usual way; but it does have it plot twists and turns.

Stan wa kami desu
I give 5 stars to everything Stan Sakai has ever done. He's the man, even if he's drawn the same hero rabbit for over 25 years. That's one old rabbit! May he live on forever.

Graphic ronin
Best of the best and the one and only. One of the finer things in life is to enjoy a good story. Usagi Yojimbo unfolds stories throughout. And good story telling is a good thing.

Miyamoto Usagi still has it!
Volume 27 of the critically acclaimed series by Stan Sakai. This is an anthropomorphic comic book set in feudal Japan. It focuses on the main character Miyamoto Usagi, aka Usagi Yojimbo, and his many friends and enemies. Usagi is now a wandering ronin, a samurai with no lord or master. He lives by the samurai code and has a polite, cheerful, and honourable personality. He is most known by others as a long eared rabbit, a skilled swordsman, and a bit of a nosy individual who likes nothing more than to get stuck into other people's problems if it's for the greater good.Usagi Yojimbo is released in single comic books and then collected into larger volumes like this. Each comic book becomes a chapter in the volumes. In each book is a mixture of one-shot chapters and story arc chapters. One-shot chapters are single stories that start and finish in the same chapter. Story arc chapters are longer stories. Some have been going on for a few volumes now, such as the story of the evil Jei / The Black Soul.It is possible to start reading Usagi from any volume you want because of this. I became introduced to the world of Usagi Yojimbo when I found volume 19: Fathers and Sons. It is the best introduction I can think of to one of the finest comic book characters I have ever read. Obviously I recommend reading it in chronological order, but I see no issue with reading this volume first and then going back. There is a story arc in this volume, but it is a contained story that starts and finishes with this book. No knowledge is necessary to pick up this book, other than that there's an evil character called Jei / Black Soul and they have crossed swords with Usagi many times. And now you know, so. Nothing in this book has spoilers for previous stories either. In this book there are 6 chapters:A Town Called HellThe start of the main story running through this book. A town is plagued by rival bosses (rulers who govern the town) and the people are suffering under unruly samurai who do not behave respectfully. Enter: Miyamoto Usagi. But does he really want to work for men like these?NukekubiOne-shot story. Usagi struggles to endure the hospitality of a nattering old woman. There couldn't possibly be a worse host than her on his travels. Could there? The sword of NarukamiOne-shot story. Usagi meets Inuyoshi, a samurai attempting to retrieve the sword stolen from his deceased lord- Lord Masaki. Usagi, being Usagi, decides to help him.Teru Teru BozuOne-shot story. Usagi stays with a family of charcoal gatherers and creates a happy Teru Teru Bozu, which the people in feudal Japan believed would control the weather. He grows fond of their child and buys him sweets from the town. But is it a good thing to guzzle down sweets, children?Encounter at Blood Tree PassUsagi has an encounter with an acquaintance from the first chapter of this book. Apparently there has been a misunderstanding and the man is dead set on killing Usagi. Noooooo!Return to HellUsagi returns to the town called 'hell' to end the suffering of the people there once and for all. He's not alone, and the riff-raff samurai had better watch out!As you can see, there's a three part story arc and three stand alone one-shots in this volume. Easily accessible to newcomers and as enchanting as Usagi has ever been for veterans. Pick up a copy, this is an immense book by a true comic master.Fans of Japanese culture, fantasy/spiritual genre will instantly see the appeal in this series. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will LOVE Usagi. Fans of walking, talking, anthropomorphic characters will enjoy it too. A real gem, still as strong as ever.

Thumbs Up!
Usagi Yojimbo 27: A Town Called Hell – Stan SakaiHere is another superb helping of Usagi action with six stories that don’t need any prior reading. There is a wonderful three part tale that opens and closes this volume which has all the elements of Samurai drama plus loads of great fight scenes. It’s a two man Seven Samurai. There are other tales that allow Usagi to show off his skill, his wisdom, his compassion, and teach us a few more aspects of Japanese culture and folklore. The art is great and the black and white style really focusses your attention on what is going on. The expressions are terrific and really contribute to the voices you conjure to speak the dialogue. There is a cover gallery at the back.Thumbs Up!
