Best for a SFF build right now.
I saw the SG05 at Fry's Electronics in Atlanta several years ago, and I have always said to myself "I should get it some day for a low-power Linux box or HTPC." We'll, after seeing the Bitfenix Prodigy come out, it got me thinking about a mini-ITX build. I started looking at everything mini-ITX that is out now, and it looks like things have gotten much better. Instead of this low-power Linux box, I could house some actual parts and replace my Corsair 650D with something smaller since I just need one PCI-E slot. That being said, I turned to this PSU because it was the only one that was modular, 80 Plus Gold, and enough wattage (Coming from an AX750 in my Corsair 650D, I didn't want to compromise).I was worried that Amazon would ship me one of the older v1.0 units and I'd get the annoying fan noise. However, I ordered mine on 10/20/2013, and I got the v2.0. This made me happy to know I got the most recent and silent one. I probably would have returned a v1.0 had Amazon sent me one. This thing is dead silent. My Corsair H50 pump drowns out the noise of the fan. I can only hear it if I put my ear right up to the back of the PSU. People will say "you'll use all the cables anyway, so get the non-modular, hur hur hur!!!" However, if you're really into this stuff, you'll get the 80 Plus GOLD and Silverstone's short cable kit (P/N: PP05) and shorten and cut the cables yourself to save space. That way, if you screw it up, you can just replace the cables. Plus, I've avoided using one of the cables, so I don't have to tuck cables anywhere.I bought it for those two reasons over the non-modular. That, and it was just as expensive as getting the SG05 + non-modular PSU together. Instead, I got the SG05 Lite and this PSU.One negative is that the cables aren't all that flexible, but I'm in the process of cutting them down to fit anyway. Another negative is that it's difficult to use the 3.5" bay in the SG05 with the modular cables because of the connectors sticking out the front butt up against the drive cage. I remedied that by getting rid of the drive cage and using a 2.5" drive for storage at the bottom. However, it IS possible to use the 3.5"/2.5" ODD cage WITH this PSU. You just have to install your drives first and then the PSU by feeding your cables into the case (not connecting them yet) and then tilting it to meet the bracket at the back, and then slowly tilting horizontally into position with the cables making a sharp downward turn.UPDATE:It's 8/3/14, and I've been using the PSU for almost a year. NO issues whatsoever. It's powering an Asus Z87i-Deluxe, i5-4670k (overclocked to 4.2Ghz), 240GB SSD, 1TB notebook hard drive, Corsair H55, and GTX670 Mini.

Warranty expired, the power supply did too
This was a great little power supply while it worked, small, pretty quiet, great set of modular cables, everything you'd want in a SFX power supply. But ...I bought it new July 23, 2016.It started dying in April 2021.Now it shuts off without warning, typically after a few minutes. It has *never* been under heavy load or abused in any way -- I was using it in a small ITX server with I3 CPU, fully assembled the entire server ran less than 30watts while booted according to the Kill-A-Watt meter. The same system runs fine with another p/s, so you can judge for yourself where the fault is.I don't expect computer stuff (especially with heat, current, and moving parts i.e. fans) to last forever, but I do expect quality expensive components (I paid $90-100 for it) to comfortably outlive the warranty. I have other p/s, disk drives, etc. quite older than this p/s still running fine.Pretty disappointed. I've liked SilverStone cases for years, this was my first p/s from them, and I believe it'll be the last.

Exceptional Compact Power Supply for Mini-ITX SFF Build
This high-quality power supply was recently installed in a Lian Li PC-TU100B aluminum case for a mini-ITX SFF build. The device has consistently provided 450 W of cool and quiet performance, and it may be noted that the fan is silent even under load, contrary to other reviews here. Although a minor issue, one complaint is that Silverstone provides only one SATA cable with 3 connectors; this cable might be too short if there are SATA devices mounted at the top and bottom of a relatively tall chassis. The Silverstone ST45SF-G has great voltage regulation well within the 3% manufacturer specification, with actual voltages reported by the system as follows:• +12 V output = 12.096 V actual (0.80% )• +5V output = 5.000 V actual (0.00%)• +3.3 V output = 3.328 V actual (0.85%)The included modular cables are neatly sleeved, but the wires are somewhat stiff, so you might want to consider purchasing the Silverstone PP05-E Flexible Short Cable Set (also sold here at Amazon.com) that are flat and very flexible, being nearly perfect for routing in confined SFF spaces. Although not listed specifically on the Silverstone website, the optional PP05-E accessory cable set is definitely compatible with the ST45SF-G.From my perspective, this is perhaps the best SFX modular power supply currently available on the market. In fact, Silverstone will soon release a 600 W version, the SX600-G, that will come standard with flat modular cables.

it would be a great product. Basically
I knock 2 stars off mainly because I think the unit is overpriced. At $50, it would be a great product. Basically, an excellent and quiet power supply so far. I used it for a mini-itx build in Silverstone's SUGO 05 case. It seems to be of fairly high quality, but I do think you are getting dinged for NEEDING a SFX power supply.I would note that the PSU + cables barely fit when the drive trays were fixed in place, I had to do some serious bending and smooshing of cables. Luckily, nothing broke. But I didn't like it. Probably the SUGO 05 NEEDS a non-modular supply. That or I need to spend another $30 on special cabling. I would, but it seems that Silverstones flat cable set can only handle 2 Sata drives and I need 3.I would also note that you have enough cables to do a full-size graphics card (2 6-pin or 1 8+1 6-pin) and 3 Sata drives. It included one strand with 2 molex + 1 floppy drive connector (didn't use). All the cables are probably over 1 foot long. The 24-pin mobo power cord however, was super fat, super stiff, and strangely short (maybe under a foot but I did not measure). You will have an issue if you are using a larger case (which you shouldn't, since these are more for ITX cases).Buy it if you need it, but otherwise, stick with a quality ATX!

Me gusta su tamaño del SFX SERIES 450W 125MM X 63.5MM X 100MM justo el tamaño para mi gabinete ITX

Trust SilverStone
The unit I ordered was DOA. Got it replaced by Silverstone quickly and got a SX500-G back. This company stands behind its product. PSU works great and silent.
