Given to a Great Nephew in the same fashion I gave GI Joe's to his Father.

My father, Sgt. Charles C. "Dizzy" Dean, took part in Inchon. He was a (forever) Marine, part of .30 caliber machine squad, !st Assualt Wave, 3rd Battalion 5th Marines ,landing at dawn on Green Beach, Wolmi Do. The " Fortress Island" guarding the harbor with its huge guns that threatened the fleet. It had to be taken before the main invasion. The island was attached to the port by a causeway. He said it seemed forever before the tide came back covering the mud flats allowing enough draft for the the invasion fleet. The 3rd 5th Marines from Wolmi Do advanced via causeway delivering mortar, tank, machinegun fire support, while 1st Inchon tracks were unloading Marines and their ladders at the seawall near twilight(1733 hrs) at port of Inchon. Following the seizure of Inchon, the 1st Marine Division fought numerous battles enroute to Seoul where they fought house-to-house, block-by-block before routing the enemy and liberating Seoul. The novel, "Victory at High Tide" by the late Robert Debs Heinl, Jr., Colonel, USMC (RET.) is a great book about Operation Chromite, the Inchon-Seoul Campaign. My father was part of the !st Provisional Marine Brigade fighting at the Pusan perimeter, Inchon-Seoul Campaign all the way to the Yula River (border with China) known as the ' Frozen Chosin " with temperatures plummeting below minus 40 degrees.
